Not sure it is a rune. Could be a European "1" with a scratch above it. Is it the same depth all through?
... at the start, there was two lines of rifles being made at Steyr, both coded bnz43. One had the normal traits and was marked with army acceptance. Others were not inspected and because at the start they used the same source for parts, they were marked with a Rune to differentiate them.
Thanks for the info. I am starting to think that the rune is legit..especially since the guy who owns it said it was a RC. The only thing is the receiver was scrubbed of markings including serial number. That doesn't sound like RC to me.The marking is likely legit if it’s on an RC.
The SS contracts are tough for a noobie tonstudy, but at the start, there was two lines of rifles being made at Steyr, both coded bnz43. One had the normal traits and was marked with army acceptance. Others were not inspected and because at the start they used the same source for parts, they were marked somewhere with a Rune to differentiate them. If it’s an RC then You likely just have the triggerguard. It they are seen on receivers, floorplates and triggerguards. The majority , probably 90% of SS contract rifles have no rune as they started making the rifles offsite at a totally separate line. At Gusen concentration camp.

Looks okay to me. Pics aren’t that clear, but the serial font looks like Steyr and the shape, size and placement of the rune looks right.
