Seen a K98 for sale with an S rune on the magazine floor plate. The receiver is scrubbed clean of markings but you can faintly see a 43. I think it's a BNZ 43 rifle. Could this be a legit marking or a fake. Anyone ever see a single rune on a floor plate?

It could just be a mismatched plate.
If someone goes through the trouble of trying to make a SS market K98, he won't stop at the floor plate.
If the receiver is scrubbed clean, then this gun probably as the same value as a parts gun unfortunately. At best you have a SS market floorplate on a mismatched gun.

Yeah. The rifle is mismatched gun. I just wondered if the rune marking was fake or not. I didn't think that runes were stamped on floor plates

Got an M44 with SS runes on it... makes the veins on purists foreheads stand out, it's awesome.
One purist said the I might as well 'Drill and Tap it as it's ruined anyhow.'
Counterfeit coming out of the FSU? Never, lol.

The marking is likely legit if it’s on an RC.
The SS contracts are tough for a noobie tonstudy, but at the start, there was two lines of rifles being made at Steyr, both coded bnz43. One had the normal traits and was marked with army acceptance. Others were not inspected and because at the start they used the same source for parts, they were marked somewhere with a Rune to differentiate them. If it’s an RC then You likely just have the triggerguard. It they are seen on receivers, floorplates and triggerguards. The majority , probably 90% of SS contract rifles have no rune as they started making the rifles offsite at a totally separate line. At Gusen concentration camp.

Thanks for the info. I am starting to think that the rune is legit..especially since the guy who owns it said it was a RC. The only thing is the receiver was scrubbed of markings including serial number. That doesn't sound like RC to me.

It sounds like a "One Part Wonder" and the rest of the rifle was just another rifle and not SS.
