I didn't know the SS used G33/40's. I thought they were only issued to GEBIRGSJAEGER divisions, the mountain troops. Every one I have seen was pretty much a grey gun with little finish remaining. Have you ever seen a 33/40 with single rune stamps or any other SS markings?
6th Nord SS Division had Gebirgsjaeger units. They mostly fought in Finland and Russia before being moved to the Western front.
Most SS guns won't have runes or other SS markings. There are many debates on any SS marked firearms.
The general conclusion are as follows:
Single rune rifles just indicated SS supervised assembly and perhaps not ownership. Single rune rifles were assembled at the Styer satellite plant where rifle parts were assembled into whole rifles. Most of these rifles probably went directly into SS use, but there is no direct evidence. I am sure waffenmeisters would flip when receiving none-proofed firearms.
BNZ 44 no letter block rifles were an SS contract but the vast majority show no SS markings.
Several Gewehr 98's were converted by the SS and these are the rifles that sometimes have legit death head markings. These are some of the only legit SS guns that are SS marked.
There are known SS sniper conversions where the rifle and scope mounts are SS marked.
Many believe that the SS would have been smart enough to stop marking their weapons with SS insignia, because if caught with such a weapon it would have been a death warrant on the Eastern Front. Later on there were similar cases on the Western Front, especially in regards to the Normandy massacre. SS and Snipers were generally treated the same by allies when captured and to say the least, that means they were treated generally quite poorly. However after it was ordered that German helmets would no longer have helmet decals it was often SS units that still applied the rune decal as a show or pride. However there are legitimate examples of Heer and Luftwaffe helmets with these late decals. I actually know a Vet that obtained several Heer decals from a Canteen within Germany during the spring of 1945.
The SS did use several other weapons which they did not mark including VZ24's and G24(t)'s.
What makes it hard for collectors is that many SS marked or single rune rifles out there are fake. What makes this even tougher is that legit examples have great variations, especially the single rune bnz rifles which have the singe rune placed either perfectly square or haphazardly - legitimate examples of both have been found.
