Since there has been a couple of SR15 threads I thought I would share some info regarding the SR15 upper
Barrel
First off, the SR15 and N4s have CHF barrels . The SR15 has a CHF by Colt Canada ( yay ! ) , the Noveske N4 has a CHF by FN
Noveske N4 claim to fame is the N4 is a M249 machine gun spec barrel and apparently the chrome lining is twice as thick so they say
Daniel Defense DDM4 ( newer ones ) and XVM have CHF ( they say they forge them in house )
Noveske Stainless - these are made from Pac Nor blanks, at Pac Nor by Noveske on their own tooling ( button ). These barrels are insanely accurate
Gas System
Since mid length is the in thing, Noveske N4 has "std" mid length, the KAC has their proprietary mid ( I think its gas tube from SR25 ) but as you can see its a bit longer. KAC is on top
Noveske has their "intermediate" on their stainless barrels 18" that is between mid length and rifle
E3 Bolt
Here is where the KAC is significantly different than all the others
Not going to go over the advantages...you can read that on KAC web site. Look at the pictures...you don't have to be a engineer to see the advantages
KAC on left...notice generous radius
Note extractor...not only the lobster tail ( like LMT enhanced ) but pivot point is different
Cam pin hole is smaller leaving more area around this weak point. Hard to tell on this pic but will be readily apparent on next one
Here is cam pin. Notice E3 is smaller in dia
In case anyone is wondering how the firing pin fits in the smaller hole of the cam pin
BTW a standard bolt will cycle in the E3 extension....I didn't fire a round since my wife would not appreciate a hole in our living room
Value
I would consider the KAC SR15 a great value. Once you factor in the $500+ URX II, and $400 worth of BUIS that comes with it , you get all the benefits of the barrel and E3 bolt for the same price as other uppers ! The reality is most people will eventually pimp out their std upper with some railed forearm and decent BUIS sooner or later. With the SR15 you just pay for it up front
I will add more comparison pics later
