Kalashnikov Manipulation-Beyond the Firearm II

agreed

yes it does look weird and it is awkward for a while but its become one of my favorite mag changes.. i use to do the elbow flair.. over the top manipulation wich is completly ok.. but if your going "dynamic" and your running and gunning the less your flipping the gun around the better i think. Alot of this is very CQB oriented... like for instance you wouldnt drop to "modified prone" if your 100 yards from a guy. Its controversial but Im a 2 point sling guy ever since... its a policy of "the rifle belongs to you.. you dont belong to your rifle" kind of a leash to a dog sort of thing... Idea being if your coming into a room and a guy grabs your rifle as you enter.. you have the option of letting go of it as you transition to seconday and skipping the possibility of being tossed around like a paddle ball.

Ambi wise and sorry to make these long posts.. I recomend the Swiss arms series.. its like a 3500 dollar AK if your really hardcore...

Makes you wonder why the bolt handle is on the right side in the first place... his reloads are smooth but look very awkward, reaching around the rifle like that.

Are russian soldiers trained to reload with their right paw?

this does make sense, it just looks weird the way he has to weave his arms in and out to get to the bolt handle

in the fn days, it is my understanding that canadian soldiers were taught to work everything involved in mag changes and stoppages with the left and hold the pistol grip in the right, on all weapons. i just figured russian weapons were the opposite based on design. i am surprised a top mounted charging handle never emerged like the uzi to allow more ambi use of the ak series

the 'honey stick' style charging handle is a mod for the AK which is a verticle charging handle, means you can basically just sweep the top of the dust cover and catch the charging handle.
if using the right hand you can either grab the top and #### it, or grip the upright with 2 or 3 fingers and use it like a paddle

Galil and Vektor R4's have it as a standard.

left hand conversion for the AK is actually quite worthwhile for a right handed shooter.
not only is it more ergonomic to work the action with your left hand, the Left side cocking handle also acts as somewhat of an indicator, an easy way to tell if you've sufferred a malfunction.

wouldn't it seem like there's less wasted movement manipulating using the left hand as opposed to doing it like a boltgun?

It seems faster because your using your left hand to strip the mag then going straight to the bolt on the right side. as opposed to stripping the mag with the left hand then getting a solid grip on the forstock then using the right to get to the bolt...then back on the trigger.

I've tried both methods and the western way seems more ergo.

What are some other thoughts?

you tell him he's wrong

I'm afraid I've gotten my self lost in this thread. I don't know much to start with...I was just thinking the left hand may be more ergo...but once again I don't kno much...and I'm about 7 hours into black friday south of the border so I'm even more fried.
