Kar98K

Today is a good day, licence issued. Going to call later to get my PAL number so I can order some ammo that is on sale right now. Anyone know if this surplus 8mm ammo with “bi-metal” jacket is okay at indoor ranges?

Bi-metal bullets are magnetic, indicating the presence of steel along with other metals. Because the bullets contain steel in their jackets, they are not permitted on most indoor range as due to baffle/backstop damage. Call your range to confirm, but that has been my experience. Best of luck!

I called my range and they said they test with magnets and don’t allow magnetic bullets. However he also said because they are lead core they would be permitted and to just drop his name saying they were okay. Don’t know what to do now as 240 is a lot to spend on ammo if I can’t use it.

EDIT

Emailed them to get something in writing and they said it is not open tipped so it is not safe, is this common for ranges to not allow FMJ?

Licence arrived today so I bought myself a gift. An RC K98k, it also came with lots of accessories I was not expecting in the box: an ammo pouch, cleaning rod, sight hood, old can of grease, and a weird metal rod attached to a string I need help identifying.

My cleaning rod won’t screw in, I think it Is either gummed up or the broken off tip of another cleaning rod is stuck in the nut. I have the rifle for fully disassembled for cleaning so thought I would check the nut, problem is the nut won’t come out, does anyone have any advice?

Might be a long shot but I was wondering if anyone had any stripper clips for 8mm Mauser they would be willing to part with I can’t find them anywhere in Canada. I could offer a sighthood in trade or pay.
