Hello and good day.

Been on a .22lr splurge as of recent.

I've bought several pistols in this caliber the past 3 months.

Here's one I would like to share with my fellow CGNers...Kel Tec PLR-22.

To start...manual, trigger lock (a very strange one), and just in case you have no access to a Philips #2...they are so kind to include one.
I purchased this from Arms East for $379.

Most of the pistol is polymer but steel is used on all important areas.
Weighing in at just 1.3kg (45.8 oz).
Overall length 18.5"
Barrel 10.1" with a 1:16 twist.
Fit and finish...fantastic.
There is a very stealth and clever bolt stop lever recessed in front of the trigger guard at the bottom.
The bolt will also hold open after the last round because of the red follower Black Dog mag.
Mags are sold seperately, good thing I've got a surplus of Black Dog Mags.

The top tube holds the recoil spring.
The first group of threads takes a suppressor.
The one under the knurled cap is 1/2"-28 for your standard AR muzzle breaks/ flash hidders...etc.

Bolt and breech face/ramp exhibit well machined craftsmanship.
Excellent steel knurled charging knob.
Factory grease...haven't cleaned this thing yet.

Removable and adjustable (slight windage only) steel rear sight.
Front sight is stantard A2 metal post.

As for the pistol in its stock form....it is just fine.
I'm terrible for keeping things bone stock...let's see what we can do for this fine pistol.

We'll start by adding a Red Lion Precision picatinny foregrip (model RPL #R5A).
I bought the kit package which comes with an aluminum trigger as well.
Next we'll need some optics, and the Bushnell TRS-25 micro red dot will do just the job.
And a good old Black Dog 26 round mag.

Now that's looking pretty good.
Now for those on a budget...the optional factory polymer foregrip is also very good...(shown on the SU-22 on the user manual cover up top).

I've been very busy with the family and will try a range report ASAP.

I would like to thank everyone's time and I hope you enjoyed the review.

UPDATE...range report.

Hello and welcome...returned from the range and I must say...this thing is wonderful.

With the addition of a Magpul RVG, it makes this a bit more fun and versatile...ie thumb break grip method.

With 600 rounds downrange, I had only one spent shell half ejected.

I found the weight to be very friendly and easy to handle...and with the little bit more heft of the Red Lion foregrip...it makes for very little muzzle rise.

The trigger starts with a moderate take-up with no creep and breaks crisp at about 5lbs.

With the absence of a stock (optional accessory), I found it a challenge to be on mark after 15m. Typical results with a stubby firearm like this one. But still maintained a pretty good group within 5 inches at that distance.

I bench fired at 20m with American Eagle 40gr roundnose using the Bushnell TRS-25 at an 8" Dirty Bird. After laserbore sighted the pistol, I took 5 shots just to see where I am...with a few tweaks...I'm quite happy with the results.

With everything you see in the pic...I spent only $50 bucks more than my stock Ruger SR-22 but this one is by far my most fun tactical type firearm.

That's all for now...bye.

wow, let me get this straight.... u bought this pistol for $389.... nice.. I didnt know they were allowed in canada. that is so awesome.,
i just went to their site that is so cool.

I was sold on the PLR-22 by this American review:

The PLR-22 is a blowback-operated pistol, and feeds from a box magazine. The pistol uses a clear polymer twenty-six round magazine, which fed flawlessly with every type of .22 LR ammo that I tried, and I tried several, from bulk hollowpoint Federal to Aguila SSS sub-sonic to Wolf Match roundnose. Everything fed, fired, and ejected perfectly.

Wolf Match turned in the best performance, grouping ten shots into just three-eighths of an inch, and the cheap Federal bulk ammo from Wal Mart that turned in the worst performance of the day was still match-accurate, grouping into one inch. Everything else that I tried grouped in between these two. Any pistol that will group its favorite ammo into an inch is plenty accurate to please me, but the PLR-22 did that well with its worst, and again, reliability was perfect.

So not the prettiest pistol in the world, but for $379 that sounds like decent performance and value to me.

I'm not a pistol-guy, but dig the "AK" look on that thing, congrats!

SU-22, the rifle pictured on the box....now THAT strikes my fancy a little! :) Anybody know if they're restricted in Canada?

Congrats! Thanks for the pics and the mods look great. Got my tracking number today. So that means it will be here any day. HOORAY:D

They would be non restricted if someone imported them or maybe its kel tec that cant get an export permit.

According to Arms East, that was the exact problem. Out of all the Kel-Tec products, only the PLR-22 pistol was granted the export permit - they wouldn't allow export of the SU-22. At least that was the case as of earlier this summer when the PLR-22 first came in.:(

HOLY CRAP!
Thatz cool!
If they had a non-restricted model I would be all over that like a fat kid to cake!

Thanks for sharing, Ive never seen one of those except mabey the stock one in

STAR WARS

Looks great with all the gear too, nice photos. Not so sure i will get one but its nice
to see whats out there in Canada

To; CableGuy for the hand grip you might want to try using a HOGUE 'Handall' grip cover made for GLOCK's they are made of; a tacky neoprene material, with built-in finger grooves and palm swells, it should slide right on with warm water, then tighten down to stay in place.
