Kel-Tec RBD thoughts?

For me, it's about having a relatively inexpensive NR semi auto in a handy and compact package. If I can get 2-3 Moa out of it, mostly plinking and some CQB type matches, I'll be happy. Plus the lifetime warranty is a bonus.

I've been in touch with Vault and apparently their KT shipment hasn't landed yet, and they've been out of stock for some time. They told me that they are aware of grey market KelTec firearms. Basically, if the store didn't buy them from Vault, they don't have a warranty. So I'd check with your store.

lol, that's exactly what they want you to believe.

Sounds like exactly the right rifle for your needs :)

???
So the rifles not brought in through the official importer still have a warranty? Who is going to provide this warranty service? IRG? That's what they want you to believe till they have your money.

The guy I spoke to at Vault made it clear that the lifetime warranty for Kel-Tec firearms sold in Canada only applies to guns distributed through them. If your serial number isn't one that Vault imported, then you don't have a warranty and Vault will not support your firearm, unless you pay out of pocket for repairs. So yeah, I would check with a store to make sure it came through Vault first.

I don't know how that's supposed to work, since Vault is the exclusive distributor and appointed Canadian warranty center. I don't know how North Sylva would go about sourcing parts.

Don't worry NS has a solid reputation for leaving it's customers twirling in the wind when it comes to warranty service.

Having owned 30 rifles 3 Tavors 40 handguns ( not all at the same time).
I have no regrets owning and enjoying a rdb.
I'd recommend it to anyone.

Yeah, I think I'll just wait for the official Vault shipment to come through in a few weeks. I've waited this long, I don't mind waiting a bit longer especially if it means I'll get a real warranty.

When it comes to lifetime warranty keltec has a good reputation down south..... the IRG strategy of shipping guns back to the manufacturer for warranty work is probably the best option.

I've been waiting for warranty work in Canada on a gun that should have been shipped back to the manufactuer for them to figure out the issue 7 months ago.
The exclusive importer's guys say it's not easy for them to send guns back across the border but I just read a post from IRG saying it's not that hard and can be done with the existing original import paperwork. It's possible that it's easier for them being based in the States and Canada but still the people in Canada who are exclusive importers and distributors of American made guns should have an ability to ship back to the factory if they can't get things sorted in a reasonable time.

Having had to do warranty twice on kel tec in Canada through Vault, I can attest to this, turn around time will be much faster through IRG and you'll get better service. This is my first hand experience.

Either way, Vault warranties their Imports the others warranty theirs. It all falls back on the Kel-Tec who will stand behind it. So I can't see problems except in a case where someone buys second hand and has warranty issues then sends it to the wrong importer. I'd find out from Kel-tec where it was imported before I'd pay Vault out of pocket.

I have an rdb and quiet enjoy it. All the lar mags I’ve used have worked well, though the mag release took a little to get used to but I quite like it now. I have had some light strikes ( if I re chamber the round they generally go bang) but never any jams. It’s a little awkward firing from the bench being short and the ejection port is where I tend to support the butt stock. It shoots 1.5-3” at 100 yards depending on what I feed it but usually 2-3” with 55 go bulk. However vertical stringing is noticeable by several inches as the barrel warms up. Where it tends to shine in my mind ( as small as it is lol) is off hand shooting. It’s very quick to get on and change targets. Would I consider it a precision rifle, not at all, a run and gun or a coyote on the run gun, absolutely. Hope this helps .

Ps OP if you don’t mind the drive from Toronto to Ottawa you’re more than welcome to try it out.

My kel tec's came in the mail today, and my initial impressions are very good on build quality. The ksg, rdb and rfb are much better in quality than years ago when I got an SU16fx and a pair of Sub 2000. Triggers are surprisingly good, however, like T97, you'll want ear pro to dry fire the RDB - it's hella loud, and nothing like the ksg or rfb, the rfb has a phenomenal trigger for a semi auto let alone a bullpup.

I may get out to the range over the weekend, but maybe not. I'll eventually get it out and start or respond to threads on cgn.

Thanks for the offer! I ended up spending a little extra and jumping at an x95. I’m really happy with it overall. But I think it Pandora’s boxed me

I've had mine for a bit and after 1050 rds it's been great not one single malfunction. I've had to loctite couple of screws like the one at the back of the pic rail and the ones for the buttstock. I've had a problem with some LAR mags where they get stuck with the mag release not working properly. This is more personal but I can't seem to find a good optic for it. I've tried red dots, HWS and a LPVO and I keep going back to iron sights.

Overall I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun plinker.
