Kel Tec SU16F review

so this thing does take 556x45 like the non-US export friendly ones I assume. did they rechamber it for 223 only fit? or is it the same thing with a 223 stamp on the side to avoid the 5.56 stamp.
the manual indicates it takes 5.56mm NATO (.223 Rem) but the manual also only shows the A,B,C and CA variants.

IIRC, it has a .223 Wylde chamber, meaning it is safe for use with either.

Just got my su16 today from Calgary shooting center and 1000 rounds of ammo put about 60 rounds through her worked awesome. Lots of fun it would hit the 10 inch gong off hand at 100 yards no problem with the iron sights. Now to go home and design a free floating ar style forend

Just hope Dlask dosn't mind threading my barrel.
Got the new ARMS flip up iron sights with an Insight MRDS. It's rocking on a majorley modded Vltor CASM handguard set. It also has the new Surefire M952V on a LaRue mount and along with my MagPul RVG. Plus who can froget my MOE stock with my single point slig. Plus it's still so light you don't even know that it's on your back. Actually I think this might just be my new 3 gun carbine.
OH YA!
Check out my supper sweet mod to the mag release button. Look familar? Thats right I moded an AR15 mag release button to fit and work on my rig. Hope it gives ya some idea's ;)
P.S. No misanthropist it does not co-witness they flip up :p

How does the SU-16 treat brass? Does it mangle the cases? How far does it throw and what clock position? Nice predictable pile or scattered all over the country? Inquiring re-loaders need to know! :p

A few of the 60ish pieces had the case mouth dented inwards for some reason.
Pile of brass is in a small area, easy to collect in my opinion. I'd say 2-4 o'clock

Saitain, I love your foregrip mod longtime. I totally want to try that when I get mine in. Would love it if you would provide more details.

It's this one right?

Yep but you got to buba the F^@!% out of it. Meaning Mr.Dremil has to come out and play to make the clearance. Maybe if I get some time this week I will post a picture shoot for ya. Oh ya a total diferent ball game when you shoot this rifle when the barrel gets free floated.
Sorry got to run to the mall as I need a costum for Halloween & they only have a few :ninja: suites left ;)

Got mine in from Frontier

Thank you Frontier for getting me this neat little carbine over the weekend. Fast shipping, great communication. Hope you get some of the accessories in too. Big ups for Frontier.

I couldn't help myself and took some pics of it. It's totally stock except I mounted a Vortex Strikefire on it and put in two LAR-15 mags.

There's more in this gallery.

My first impressions of it are:
-- Plastic is pretty hardy. I'm sure it will pick up scratches and I wouldn't want to mortar the stock or take it into conflict but it'll last.
-- I haven't shot it obviously but I'm feeling the butt of the stock and it looks like it might be a hard.
-- The bipod is hella-cheesy. I will definitely mod it out of existence. I thought there would be some metal but nope, just plastic wings (you can see what I mean from the pics). It is not easy to deploy but pretty easy to snap shut.
-- charging handle feels solid
-- this thing weighs nothing.
-- I can get used to the mag release. Trigger finger goes up to push in the button.
-- the default 5 rnd mags feel real cheap hence the Lar-15 mags
-- Before I get the money to mod the foregrip I should say that I like the knurling on the plastic.
-- some of the machining looks not top quality. I'm sure it will serve
-- do I detect a bit of rust in the bolts that are part of the bipod mechanism? It kind of looks like it.
-- The Strikefire mounted fine on the picatinny
-- not a fan of the foresight, hence the Strikefire. May look into Back up sights.
-- Safety I can get used to. It's a pop in kind behind the trigger guard

Everything else will have to wait until I get to the range. Also keep in mind that I am a newbie.

Out of curiosity, what characteristics change when you free float the barrel? Does it make any perceptble difference in accuracy?

Thanks

I cant believe you put a surefire that's worth more than the actual rifle on there. Pimp as s**t son

Hence why I used an AR15 mag release button and moded it to go on top of the orignal.

Predator you live in the LMZ since you are in B.C.? If so come try it your self at the pumkin shoot at Poco range. As alot of people talk alot about it like it's snake oil but unless you try it your self and see the facts first hand it's hard to believe.

Actually the Insight MRDS is worth more than the rifle and the SurFire Is almost the same cost of the rifle.

Oh ya this is a shot out to all you KelTec Su16 owners. I had another Ahh Haa moment about another mod. Again I won't post anything tell it's done but I will give ya a hint. It has to do with adding another part!

I am extremely intrigued if you have gotten the barrel free floated. Go tell NEA how you done it and get them to make some.
