Just saw this on Marstar's web site:

https://marstar.ca/product/kel-tec-su16fa-rifle-223-rem-5-56-nato-18-5-blk/

Def the cheapest black rifle we have seen in a long time.

I wish I could justify owning one. If I could, I'd for sure buy one new, the KelTec lifetime warranty only covers the original owner.

Nutnfancy, love him or hate him, makes some good points (and he's not alone). AND he is a huge fan even though he has access to the whole spectrum of competing rifles available in the US. What does that tell us about the relative merits of the SU16 in the much more limited Canadian market?

I'm well aware of the mag platform, I find it odd as they ship with mags from the factory are they being pulled and sold separately?

The original magazine is prohibited in Canada and I guess too much hassle for Marstar to have it pinned in the US. Mags are less than $30, so not really an issue.

The gun looks cool as it is but sucks when you fold it, especially the front bipod. Looks like a dying bird or something. Just leave as is.

The one I had worked great, no issues at all.
That was the tactical version, with adjustable/telescoping stock. Really a fun gun!

Only problems I had were failures to feed some handloads and when I switched to SB dies that was solved.

If anything it reaffirms that opinions are like #######s, everyone has one and they usually stink. The gun maybe fine but I wouldn’t put that cheese balls opinion up on a pedestal.

Haha, I agree, on all counts. He does apparently have a loyal following, good for him?

The video is the best one I could find on the topic, would love to see some others.

Nutnfancy always gives very high ratings for lack of weight.

He generally looks at things from a perspective of having to carry the gun all day while hiking across the desert.

A polymer rifle makes a lot of sense from that point of view.

So it’s come full circle since I joined this site in 2013.

Back then the only better option basically was the Rob arms XCR.
The XCR was pricey though and heavy.
I started with the SU 16 , then added the pistol grip and forearm kit.
Then bought the factory version with the pistol grip.

Well here we are again.
There was a few cases of the back blowing out but I still think some of that was due to improper reassembly after cleaning.
I don’t think they really need to be taken apart for cleaning though as all I did was spray it with g36 and it ran like a top.
Excellent trigger as well, very light and fast.

Only real thing to be aware of is warranty as it only covers original owner.
Also you can buy aftermarket parts from Iron eagle tactical out of the US
