The firearm itself is not what has the capacity limitation on it, but the magazine itself is. Since pistol mags have a maximum capacity of 10 rounds, as opposed to the 5 round maximum capacity that centrefire rifle mags have, magazines manufactured specifically for pistols such as the LAR-15 (which is an AR-15 pattern pistol) are limited to 10 rounds. And since the use of said mags is not regulated, any firearm that they will coincidentally fit into (anything that can use AR mags) is perfectly legal to use them.

A Mini should be on the Must-Have list for any gun nut. They're classics. One of the most hated objects in many lefty circles. Id have a tough time deciding between a 14 or a 30. Who cares if its not accurate. Jap cruisers are better than Harley's but they have zero character. Same with Mini's, they have character to justify there shortcomings. Id trust my life with one no question.

I was like many others in thinking it was the rifle that had the 5rnd limit.
This makes the Kel Tec very high on my to have list as long as i dont see too many bad reviews.

1. Is it rough on brass? I'll be reloading for it and hope it's not going to mangle it up too bad
2. What upgrades should I be expecting to be tempted by? .. obviously I'll outfit it with sling & scope, but any other internals/addons I should be thinking about.. JdgD mentioned an adjustable gas block?
3. The tactical model comes with a flash suppressor - Is this somehow available on the S/S ranch model?

Good choice, Great rifle, nearly indestructible being based on the Garand action.
The scope will take out the poor sight issue.
The rifle ejects the spent shells about 15 ft from factory. There are two options, 1) not as good for re loaders, different size holes in the block bushing, to change the cycle rate by limiting gas flow. or 2) adjustable block (Allen wrench) so when you're running hot custom loads you can save your action from being hammered by the op rod not to mention giving you tighter groups etc. 3) and finally if you want real accuracy improvement a trigger job is in order. the factory trigger inst horrible but leaves a fair bit of room to improve.
There are a tonne (canadian spelling) of accessories for mini's, watch for the different serial number ranges and you need the right parts for the diff ones. 180~ rifles are the old style 580~ are the newer improved due to re tooling and re engineering several key items including a thicker overall barrel. The factory target barrel isn't worth the expense as under the op rod i believe its teh same as the rest if memory serves (check that to be sure).
A compensator is not a bad idea either
There are plenty of more knowledgeable people around than i, I've just gotten back into shooting/hunting. Let me know if your research digs up some cool mods with a good return on investment. I'm planning on getting a Choate Dragunov stock for mine also.
