I recently purchased a Kentucky Long Rifle Flintlock by a builder named T.R. Girodat. I believe he has passed some 6 years ago.
The gun is in pristine condition. By the wear on the frizzen it has been shot quite a bit. There is not a single mark on the barrel or the wood. I have owned many black powder guns but this one is by far the nicest.
It has a 43.5 inch barrel.
Can anyone give me more information on the builder and provide me with an estimated value of this rifle. I don't wish to sell it, I just want to insure it.

I knew Ted and have a couple of his guns and his workmanship is very good. Do you know the serial number on the gun?

That is one of his early guns, made around 1971 and he did use it a fair amount. I beleive he made somewhere between 30 to 35 muzzle loaders and guessing around 5 to 8 single shot rifles up. I do have a couple of his guns. The last muzzle loader i remember was a John Armstrong copy flintlock. I believe on that one he made all the parts except the barrel

Ted Girodat lived in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. He died about 10 or 12 years ago. I knew Ted through a friend and have seen some of his creations...they are absolutely top notch: he never compromised on quality. No way to put a value on a gun we have not seen. Robins made beautiful custom locks, both flint and percussion and I have built on a couple of the latter. In their time, M/L barrels by Douglas were very good: I have built on them also and found that they shoot very well. You have scored a fine rifle.
