Yup thats the one. Troy chassies, some generic collapsible stock and pistol grip, Bushnell-something red dot. I cut barrel and ported it as you can see. Nice and short package. Velocity loss from factory 22" barrel in 19" barrel is about 130fps, 165-grainers were flying at 2700 fps average and 150-grainers @ ~2940fps. Red dot is just as bad as cheap chinese 30$ piece albeit with beter reticle. Nice rig altogether. Thanx for selling it to me, I think its win-win as you will fire this one for sure one of those days.

mine pictured below, has a 22" Krieger medium contour DMR stainless barrel, the rig as pictured below weighs 11 lbs 4 ounces on the dot.

Very mean looking rig!

I could be wrong but that looks like a ported barrel not muzzle break.

I have something similar (called Magna port) on one of my rifle and its permanent you can remove it unless you chop the barrel far enough to discard that.

Do you mind I ask how much you have invested so far?
 
mine with all it's goodies has almost broke 4000.00 , still need a magpul PRS buttstock and an eotech (or similar) so 5000.00 is not far away ..... silly eh? :D :D

Ouh............!

I know things will get expensie in the way you guys doing it but man that's steep on the modification!

So do you suggest I sell my newly acquired M305 before my wife starts consulting marriage counsel on why we are living so poorly!:D
 
In fairness 4000.00 includes the cost of the spare parts I have in the kit. Bolt n guts , trigger parts gas piston, oprod. , so say a lil over 3400 for the rifle and 600 in spare parts.
 
Barrel is ported, I did it from sheer boredom and to save a few bucks. Invested
- rifle 450$
+ chassies 902$
+stock 150$
+ pistol grip ~45$(can't remember)
+ red dot ~260$

= 1807$ total cost taxes and shipping included.

You may have noticed I shop carefully and it will be hard to match my numbers. Anyone willing to put together similar rig should factor in lot of time for shopping around or pay premium for each component.
 
King - where did you get that shiny barrel, how much and how accurate is it. What is a twist rate and kind of bullets does it like the most. Do they make heavy profile as well? Nice rig by the way

It is a Krieger barrel, they make a heavy barrel version in both 1:10 and 1:12 twists.
Hopefully they are very accurate!
 
the run down on mine is
full mint condition usgi parts kit, hand fitted to the norc receiver. All parts adjusted to NM spec. Gas assembly is smith enterprise NM crazy horse and the trigger also is a smith ent built , crazy horse trigger group, both built and heat treated at smith ent with parts i sent to them. Those two parts cost me over a grand hehehehe would my #### fall off if i didn't get them.... prolly not ...... but i swear it grew a few millimeters :D :D
The barrel came courtesy of Obtunded, here on CGN, and is a Krieger cryo stainless 1:12 twist, medium contour, USMC Designated Marksman Rifle barrel. I will know how accurate it is over the coming weeks but I am expecting very good things.

Building a rifle like this from a pile of parts, meticulously guaging and fitting each component to the finished state has been a long time dream for me. Other than some barrel work..... trimming 1.5 inch, muzzle break install and recess crowning.... being done at Dlask arms as i type this.... the entire build was done on my bench, just me , my rifle and my U.S. .30 cal service rifle shop manual. I don't think it's cool cuz of what it cost...... and cost won't make it a better rifle than one built for far less. Makes me grin though and that's what counts :D Also, unlike most other folks around here.... I don't have a vast collection of guns.... no AR's , no tavors..... no fancy remi shotguns..... no ruger 10-22's ..... so all my play money goes to my m14 hehehe once she's "finished" i'll be moving on to my next project. If i can't build it myself..... I won't own it.

I'm thinkin my next shorty build will have a ported barrel like yours 22lr..... I really like that look. How does it tame muzzle jump ect.....
and what do you think of the troy rig? haven't got mine out to play yet but will get to it next week i think.

so who else out there has an MCS rig.... post some pics hehehe

porting works better than original norc's flash hider but proly not as good as aggressive muzzlebreaks. There is still a little bit of muzzle jump but recoil is mild, gentle push rather than chop. Weight of the rig helps too. I was shooting in twilight but didn't notice much of flash either, virtually none. Well, I might have been blinking and twitching but I doubt it. King, I take my hat off for all your effort you into tweaking them M14's. In my case things are slapped together, my vallet did most of the work.

And I would give a 5 dollars to anyone who would tell me Kevin's nick here on CGN's - sonuvagun would never tell me himself.

We were giving him a bit of a hard time about that. If your going to have a shiny barrel, why not polish up the rest of it? Better yet, take it in and have it chromed. Man, the baddies are going to see you from the glare off the rifle before you get within the range even of that high powered shooter.

enquiring minds need to know ....
how did you port the barrel without getting chrome flaking off from the bore lining??

Dlask does a very inexpensive 14 barrel chop and thread the muzzle to AR 15 specs, which allows for interchanging "MUZZLE BLING" at whim, but a permanent port on the original barrel is another neat way to go ... provided the chrome bore doesn't flake at the port holes,
OR,
provided you use a NON-chromed barrel, Like Thomas' Kreiger.

If you can do a port on the chromelined barrels without losing accuracy from flaky bore chrome, we would be mightily impressed.

This is mine. Stock Norc except for the SA Medium weight barrel, USGI gas cylinder and SEI extended bolt stop release.

The one thing I don't understand about the Troy stock is why they didn't follow the AR shape directly above the pistol grip. The way they did it half the grips out there look like crap.
