Here is the Kidon Kit fresh from Canada Post via Israel - Free shipping. Shipment took four days to arrive in Canada, spent fourteen days with Canada Border Services then took another five days to arrive in Terrace via Canada Post.

Here are the contents:

The body of the Kit
Sling with attachment
Two Pistol Adapters (PPQ 5", M&P 5" Pro
Allen Key Set (3 sizes for the kits construction. You will need a smaller one as well. I don't have the size I used but it was small.
Polymer "Iron" Front and Rear AR type sights, Adjustments require no tools
Manual

IMI website has a very good video showing how to assemble the Kit. Do it in the same order and you should have no problem assembling the kit. One note that I either missed or the video doesn't mention it. You may have to loosen the charging handle BEFORE you attempt to install the pistol. Too, make sure you get the gun level and engage the rails properly. It took me a few tries to get it right. I ordered two adapters. The one for the PPQ does not fit properly and I talked, then sent an email to the company in Nevada who sold me the Kit. Israel and IMI Industries are closed on Friday and Saturday. I expect I will hear from them early next week either by phone or email. The Adapter for the M&P fits perfectly and was an easy install.

I make no excuses I am not very mechanically inclined. What would immediately be obvious to those that are takes me several attempts doing pretty much the same thing before the light goes on. It usually eventually does. t took me about three hours of fiddling around the issue requiring the charging handle should be loosened then set for the chosen pistol. Then there was the case of the PPQ adapter. It took more than a minute or two before I decided the part was not going to fit as it should.

Like most polymer injected molded parts they tend to be tight fitting and this Kit is no exception. I have no doubt those parts that are affected by take downs for cleaning, storage or transportation will wear in over time.

The kit has a metal flash hider sleeve inside of a metal sleeve. The flash hider sleeve is adjustable to the pistol being used. This flash hider has the dual purpose of hiding the flash...da and protecting the polymer frame from flame cutting. This is a smart design feature. The butt stock has three settings and is essentially an AR stock and the kit will accept other AR butt stocks. I don't see the need for any change but you can if you want. The Kit comes with a sling and a single attachment. The sling appears to be very well made. The Kit also comes with an angled fore grip. It is a quality piece providing a firm purchase point for your weak hand. Ironically, if this grip was a vertical type the Kit would run afoul of the US FFA and even with a brace would be considered a SBR, requiring a "Stamp" for Americans hence the angled design.

I got a very good buy on the Kidon carry bag bought separately. It retails for as high as $100US. I paid less for it. IF you intend to shoot the kit without an Optic and IF you don't have a hard case to transport the "Carbine" and IF you want to store your gun in a different container then the kit is a well made option you will find a use for. It is compartmentalized for each piece, including the sling and the three pronged Allen Key set. Guess who has a case that won't be used much.

Completed Assembly with M&P Pro 9MM installed and ready for the range.

High HO High HO it was off to the range I go. I took out 100 rounds of my loaded lead topped cartridges. The load was 4.1 gr of 231 under the Lyman 356402 bullet sized .357 OAL 1.1".

The Vortex Crossfire I installed allows for co-witnessing the sights. I started at 10 yards in order to get the Horizontal axis set and the vertical centered. Once that was done I moved out to 15 yards to fine tune the setting. Next spring, when the weather is more conducive to sitting in a chair firing off shots, I will fine tune the Optic using 4 gr of Titegroup under the BDX 124 gr RN jacketed bullet I use in competition.

I then proceeded to follow the same routine with the iron sights. I just took six shots to get them shooting 1.25" groups off my shooting bag at 15 yards. Off a bag my M&P Pro shoots about the same with iron sights. Younger eyes that don't deal with the halo effect of early cataracts would see that group shrink to under an inch.

Shooting rapidly at 15 yards with the Optic placed 20 rounds inside a six inch circle free style standing. The IDPA Down Zero on the body of the target is eight inches in diameter. Recoil is not an issue with little or no muzzle rise. My body moves a bit standing so for me I was happy with the result. I did not experience any malfunctions. Shooting this pistol freestyle using iron sights would open this group up to eight inches on average with a reasonably fast cadence.

I tried removing the gun then re-installing it to see what affect, if any it would have on accuracy. Frankly, I noticed none.

Here is a target shot at 15 yards off my bag before I centered the Optic.

Commentary:

One swallow doesn't make a spring but I really was impressed with this kit. The Kit will fit over 100 pistols. Almost all must be railed. There were no issues experienced during my initial outing with the Kit. The Kit shot and felt like my friends EVO. With the butt stock collapsed it is about the same length. Once I get a replacement for my PPQ adapter I think I will install my PPQ 5" in the Kidon. I would carry my PPQ Match with a Vortex Venom as a pistol for any two gun events we run at our club. Next year we will be running IDPA PCC monthly on Saturday afternoon and our IDPA pistol match on Sunday using the same stages. While legal for IDPA PCC Division shooters will want to check IPSC rules to see if the Kit is legal for their PCC Division.

I should add the take down, re-assembly is very easily accomplished. Push two tabs and a pin and the two pieces are apart. Open the tension flap on the right side of the frame and the pistol maybe withdrawn for cleaning. To reinstall you line up the rails and install the pistol. Line up the rails on the butt stock , ease it in witht he pistol adapter catching the beavertail of the pistol, give the butt stock a slap to engage the tabs, push the pin in and you are ready to go.

If you are considering a venture into Pistol Caliber Carbine (for IDPA that includes 9MM, .357Sig, 40 S&W, 10MM & 45ACP), this Kit combined with a railed pistol is a very good option. If you have a railed safe Queen or you want to use your favourite railed pistol, the Kidon Kit is worth a look. One advantage that occurred to me was my M&P Pro has the Apex Competition trigger kit installed. It provides a significantly better trigger than the stock triggers on the Ruger PCC, Beretta Stormor Kel Tec 2K I own.

I should put a plug in for YRS Action Shooters World Wide (.https://.yrsinc.com/product/imi-defense-kidon-newest-and-innovative-pistol-to-carbine-platform/ . The gentleman on the phone was most helpful. IMI in Israel had my order out the day it was received by Air Express - free shipping. Total cost $797.94 Cnd. includes the Carrying Case- see comment on same above. With the currency conversion the bag made up $76.Cdn

I received overnight an email from IMI in Israel requesting a picture of both sides of my Kit in order to assist them in resolving the problem with the PPQ Adapter. They apologized for the inconvenience and assured me the issue would be resolved.

I'll add to this review as time goes on as appropriate.

ps I should add the Kit cannot be imported into the US by Canadians to shoot matches. With the butt stock installed it is considered a Small Barreled Rifle (SBR) under the Federal Firearms Act(FFA). Americans require a "Stamp" to own this Kit with a butt stock. The "Stamp" is not available to Canadians. Source ATF Office, Seattle, WA.

OK I have a Vortex Strikefire Red/Green dot installed on the gun that sits high above the bore. After mulling it over I spent some time at the range playing with yardage and sight settings. This gun will be used for IDPA PCC Division. Given that most of our shooting is done anywhere from 5 to 20 yards with Standard Stages occasional out to a maximum of 50 yards. 50 yards would be rare.

With the above in mind I sighted my gun to shoot 1 1/4 inches low at 7 yards. At 10 yards the shot was less than an inch low and bang on at 15 yards. At 20 yards the gun shoots about an inch high. Due to the weather I did not do any shooting beyond 20 yards. All this was with the M&P Pro 5" installed in the kit.

I took the pistol out of the kit and cleaned it. The pistol gets quite dirty on the outside and completely blakens to the FO front sight. You might want to tape over your front sight to protect it from flying sot etc . It will be interesting to see if the kit retains zero when I re-install the pistol. I will report how it goes and post targets.

I mentioned earlier IMI had offered to pay all shipping as it relates to the small adapter for the PPQ 5" that did not fit on the kit. I decided to ship it via the Post Office rather than try to go by UPS, their suggestion and just paid the postage. ($15.). The adapter was delivered today by USPS. I would expect the replacement to be in my hands shortly after New Years Day from Israel. My plan is to install my PPQ M2 5" on the kit for now. I am also thinking about installing my 92A1 Beretta. The gun is heavier than my polymer guns and may help in keeping the mizzle rise to a minimum. There isn't much rise now but level would be nice.

Hi, could you weigh your complete setup please?

As pictured above without a sling, and with a M&P Pro 5" with magazine: 87.70 oz., 2.48kg or 5.486 lbs. For comparison my CX4 Storm (Restricted) with a Vortex Sparc2 weighs 111.1 oz, 3.15kg, or 6.94 lbs.

I took my Kit out yesterday to see if it held Zero. I t held vertical at 10 yards but printed about 3/4" to 1" to the right. A quick adjustment and I was back in business. All zeroing done off my shooting bag. To avoid this issue for those who compete regularly I would suggest you install a pistol you don't use all the time to avoid the necessity of re-zeroing your Kit after each cleaning of the pistol. This may or may not hold true all the time and I intend to see if re-zeroing is required when next I clean my pistol. I am still have not decided which of my pistols will find a permanent home in the kit.

One huge advantage this pistol kit has over my Ruger PCC, Sub2K & CX4 Storm is the trigger on my Pro. It has the Apex Competition Kit installed. With a fast reset and 3.5lb trigger the Kit becomes a pretty sweet shooter. I think anything under 5lbs makes for a pretty nice setup.

In the interest of fairness i do want report on my attempt to install the PPQ Adapter. I ordered the 2nd adapter with the plan to make my PPQ Match the primary pistol for the kit. I ordered the M&P adapter more as an afterthought. As it turned out the M&P installed without incident and the combo has worked flawlessly.

The PPQ Adapter will not mate with the rear of the kit. The molding was not right. Think trying to put on a size small glove on a large sized hand. Both the Distributor in the US and IMI were great to deal with. Just send the part back and they will send me a replacement which they did. The replacement was identical to the first and it did not fit either. Rather than check to see if their molding was the problem they did offer to return my money via (FRAUD ALERT) which was not going to work as i don't use their service. I suggested and the Distributor has agreed to replace the PPQ adapter with a Beretta 92A1 adapter. I will send the PPQ part back to them.

I suspect this is a one off situation. I am emailing a picture of the part with the rear of the Kit indicating where the issue is. My sense is they do not understand what the issue is. I will report back once I receive the Beretta adapter.

Right now our range has about 140cm of snow on the ground and I am recovering from last weeks shoulder replacement surgery so time is on my side. When you get a new toy you just want to play with it.

The reason I bought this Kidon was to use the gun in IDPA PCC and IPSC Club Matches. Fior IDPA I need to make 135PF. Out of a 18.5" carbine getting to 135PF is not difficult, out of a 5" barreled pistol it is not so easy using 9MM cartridges. A quick peek at my loading manuals suggests I will need a slower powder than the ones I use regularly to make 125PF for IDPA. It is also clear getting to 135 PF using a 4.25" gun would be harder yet.

Over the next month or two I will add to this post loads I discover will work using the M&P Pro in both 9MM and .40S&W. Both pistols are Gen 1 guns. I have both guns and the adapter for the M&P series. If any of you have developed loads that make 135 PF using a railed pistol please post them using the following format:

Pistol, barrel Length, Caliber
Powder
Amount in grains
Bullet type and weight eg 125gr RN Lead, 125 Gr RN Plated Can Pro, 125 Gr FMJ BDX etc
Avg Vel
PF

I will ask moderators to delete any loads that exceed published load data for the cartridge.

The loads need not have been shot out of a Kidon.

OK after some studying I have decided to run a M&P Pro 5" in .40cal. The pistol doesn't get much use so here is a chance to let it get out to play. Making 135PF is so much easier using 170 gr bullets. 4 gr of 231 will be tested over my Chrony when the recent rains go away. Recoil is negligible when running at 125 PF with those bullets and should not be significant with a powder bump. I have the combo sighted in at 10 yards with the Vortex. It shoots 1" low at five yards and an inch high at 15 which should work well in IDPA stages. In time I may change that out to a 75 yard zero and test our the hold over/under at closer ranges. Time and experience with the set up will determine the final settings.

Thanks for the review! I'm just wondering what's the benefit to one of those kits, as opposed to just rocking a 9mm upper on an AR? I'm definitely interested in doing PCC matches.

Side-note: I was planning on getting one of those kits for a home defence gun while living in Chile - that was a legit reason to own a gun over there, crime situation is almost as bad as in the US, on average, and these aren't regulated items. Ended up moving back home, instead, so there was no reason to get one.

If you have a railed pistol you are not using this Kit will give the pistol new life. The Kit is really handy. It is well built, well designed and well it comes out of Israel and IMI what else do you have to say. My Kidon will be used in IDPA matches up here. The pistol nas a 3.5lbt rigger using an Apex flat faced trigger and a Competition spring kit. I have not got enough experience in competitions yet to say whether or not the Kidon is any handier that my Ruger PCC or Evo, The M&P pistol is as reliable as the sunrise so that is a non issue.

If I had an AR, then I might want to just buy an upper....but...

Given our political climate right now, I would suggest you look for a NR 9MM carbine.

I have a Sub2k, a Ruger PCC and a CZ Evo Carbine that fall into the NR category. All three are dead nuts reliable and as accurate as I can shoot. They all have a place in ones gun cabinet. They all can be found playing in IDPA PCC Division.

Two other options are the CX 4 Storm and the FX-9. The former has a terrible trigger but can be fixed with a Serra Papa trigger kit, while the latter has a mixed reputation for reliability out of the box. From what I have read in my research the reliability issue can be overcome. The FX-9 looks like a tinkers dream. If you can't double the price of the gun in add-ons I don't think you are trying. LOL

You have a ton of options right now. One benefit of the kit I am finding is it is very handy around barricades and close quarters, is light, especially with the striker fired pistol installed. I did try installing a Beretta 92 M1A1. The decocker was not easy to engage due to how the pistol sits in the Kit. I would recommend the use of a striker fired pistol simply for the weight issue. Recoil is not a factor using the kit.

I mentioned the CZ Evo Carbine. It is saddled with the 5 rd mag limit here in Canada. The offset is the gun is designed around the 9MM, a descendant of a full auto version used by the Czech Army. If you fear a SHTF scenario or for home defense this is the gun I would be looking at. Mag limits likely would not be an issue in the melt down cases. The gun is extremely accurate and reliability and build quality is what you would expect from CZ.

ps You can't take the Kidon into the US due to SBR regulations in the US.

Thanks for the detailed recommendations! I like the idea of running a 9mm upper as it's a pretty affordable option for someone who's already playing other games with an AR and I'm very comfortable with the platform. I ran a match that had 3 divisions (pcc/rimfire/pistol) shooting the same stages with an NEA 22lr upper. Now that thing was jam-o-matic, but I won the one stage where it didn't jam, going against some pretty good people.

So, the main concerns with a 9mm upper are the uncertain legal climate and obstacles.. I can live with that. In any case I don't think this will be high on the Turdboy's list of priorities before we vote him back into the drama class.

Edit: The FX-9 is looking interesting... Does it like certain makes and/or models of triggers?

I have read where there can be issues with aftermarket trigger in the FX-9. If you are contemplating acquiring that model check out the FX-9 thread on this forum and do a search of google. Outside of the AR platform take a hard look at the CZ Evo Pistol or Carbine. The latter in carbine form, like the FX-9 is NR. If the Evo could use 10 rd mags it would be the clear winner for reliability and accuracy out of the box. Just my opinion. Folks have had great success with the FX-9 as well.

Somebody here chimed in with the RA-140 working fine for them. I liked it on paper, so I will try it out on my regular AR build. Already got one on order from the big B as nobody in Canada either had that trigger or the ARFX stock. If it works in the AR and I like it as well as the S3G, I'm getting another one for the PCC build.

Are there any Canadian sources for the Kidon kit? I have heard that to make the ones from Israel fit, you have to remove material from the muzzle area.

What you heard is wrong. You order the kit and the adapter for the gun you intend to use in the kit. I ordered mine from a US supplier of the Kidon. The Kit is shipped from Israel direct to you. Mine was shipped the day after I emailed my orderto the retailer. Three days later it arrived in Canada via air and spent 10 days in Cdn Border Services ( this was over Christmas), 3 days later the Kit arrived at my door.

I ordered the adapter for the M&P and the PPQ Match. The adapter did not fit my PPQ and was replaced free by the retailer via Israel for a Beretta 92A1 adapter.

I mounted the Beretta but found it was awkward to get to the Decocker lever so rather than deal with the issue I mounted my M&P Pro 40 cal in the Kit and could not be happier. IDPA PCC Division required a 135 PF which in a Carbine is easily reached with a 9MM. Using the 5" M&P Pro 9MM was not worth the effort so I moved on to my little used M&P Pro 40 cal. The 40cal is reallt downloaded at 135PF. I have a titegroup load for my 175gr Lead bullet that runs around 140ishPF...problem solved. I think the Kit is best suited for striker fired pistols without a manual safety as the left side opening may not work well with all manual safeties. The 92 decocler is mounted on the slode so it may be an outlier.

The kit is an inexpensive alternative IF you have a pistol that fits the kit and most popular pistols with a rail will find an adapter made for them.
I bought mine here: h ttps://www.yrsinc.com. They treated me well and I would deal with them again.
