Kids that Hunt

Getting a chance to take your kids hunting is the ultimate. I would gladly trade every 200+ whitetail in the world for the experiences I've had with the kids over the past few years. I've always liked the saying "A family that hunts together;stays together". Same goes for fishing and camping, there is nothing better than spending time in the outdoors with them.

I have two sons one is now 26 years old he started hunting with me when he was 5 years old the second is 3 years 9 months old now and started hunting with me when he was 2 years 10 months old yes thats right while the little fellow was still in diapers and yes I changed them all on many 2 to 9 day hunts/trips.

Here are some pics in no special order...

Great pics and stories guys! I was lucky enough to grow up in a hunting/fishing family and hope to be able to teach my kids(when i have em) the ropes one day. Good job!

I'll always remember the saying that goes something like this "kids that grow up hunting/shooting/fishing don't hang out on street corners mugging little old ladies"...

:D

Kids love video games cause they have no alternative. Hunting is way better than any video game.. its real, more interactive, and tastes better than pizza pops...cp:

Hey dont get me wrong, my boy still likes video games...for an hour or so at a time, then he gets bored of them. He always wants to know when we are: going to the range, hunting, or fishing. He is the only reason my wife puts up with my purchases...lol

Since we are sharing pics, this is my youngest with me on opening day last fall. Got the mulie doe with my Garand late in the afternoon. He was very excited to have been with me when we got her. Wasn't so enthusiastic with having to help with gutting, though.:D

In B.C. , Kids cannot hunt before 10 yrs. From 10 to 14 they can get a junior licence where their animals are included as part of the accompanying parents limit. After 14 they have to pass the CORE course to get their own hunter number and then they can get their own licence and tags. My 13 year old son got his hunter number last summer - unfortunately too late for the LEH draws. He never got a crack at a deer last fall but he did get 5 coyotes in 2010. He also has 10 ducks and 1 goose so far this waterfowl season. He can't wait to put in for draws this year.

My kids have been hunting for some time now. My Son 14 has done quite well. 4 deer and 3 bears. My daughter took her first deer last Sept at the ripe old age of 11.

Neither of them can wait for spring bear!!

Awesome pics! I can't wait till my boy is old enough. Heck, in the meantime, I'd be lucky to find deer like the photos above! :)

(I don't have to be an expert hunter, I just need to be a page or two ahead of the boy) :)

My boy had a pretty good year, theres also a little 6 X 5 whitetail that I don't have a picture for at the moment. My daughters got some ducks, and one shot her first deer.Don't have those pics at the moment either.

I don't know how it started, but at our camp, the wives bring the kids up Friday after they are done school.

We have all hunted hard, and usually have filled most of the tags by then.

So Fri evening, and all day Saturday, the kids go hunting with us. They get to see what is hanging on the game pole, and where their favourite deer pies and sausages come from.

They get to hear the sound of the dogs runw:h:, and love talking on the two ways to each other.

I have three young girls, and they all start asking, "Is it deer season yet Dad??",
in May!!

My best hunting memory to date is shooting two deer in full view of my oldest daughter when she was only 3. We were lucky, we got to watch them for about 5 minutes, they walked right up to us before I shot.

She doesn't remember, but I will never forget.

congrats!

I took my 13 year old son out hunting and he got his first deer this year! He was pretty pumped about it. Nice 250 yard shot with a .243 Win. The terrain was open and we were on one hill and the doe was on the other. There was about 10 all together and they were starting to get nervous with us there. I tried getting closer with him, but I felt very confident with his skill to shoot that far as I have been taking him to the range about once a month. The first shot was a bit low, but he dropped her with the second.
