Killing hibernating bears

The only thing not ethical when you hunt any critters is to make them suffer and poaching. If you follow all the rules and laws you are gtg.

I don't like the hopping fences and rustling cattle part as well... However, CarverK has explained and apologized so let's move on and get back on topic :)

Interesting... I know you are a well travelled hunter, so I am curious to know which other jurisdictions are you aware of that follow this method of predator control?

Practically everywhere, just remember this is about predator control
and ADC work not sport hunting. My predator control permit had gassing dens listed as one of the approved methods.

Where in the regulations for BC does it say it is unlawful to hunt a bear in it's den?

Interesting point. Assuming you are not targetting a family unit in the den, I think it's legal.

Nobody does it, but I've never read antying in the BCWA to say it's illegal. Not only would it probbaly be more dangerous than hunting bears in a more traditional manner, it's probably WAY more work, too.

Giving a bear or any other animal a 'sporting chance' on the account of ethics seems weird to me. You're still killing an animal. If anything shooting a bear that's hibernating seems more humane then chasing it up a tree with dogs and shooting it or whatever.

How many people here have ever come across a hibernating Bear? Just curious.

Didn't see the bears, however there are 2 dens on my buddies property. he has them marked out with orange marker tape. how far apart do they usually hibernate? his 50 acres is surrounded by an additional 400 that is owned by a family member and the 2 dens are both on his 50 section about a 5-10 min walk apart.

I really love the Snopes website. It has a way of cutting right through the bullshyte. Just as an aside, though, there needs to be seen and understood that there's a very distinct difference between The Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA. While both are staunchly anti-gun,anti hunting organizations,HSUS is far more radical, closely aligned with Animal Alliance International,International Fund for Animal Welfare, and to a lesser extent,PETA. The first three are listed on the websites of various intelligence agencies around the world as "urban terrorist" organizations.

Folks with family ties to Sask are in a preferred pool, and their chances are still great. The way things are now for non connected non residents they might as well forget about it.

I heard they made that change. It's been a couple of years since I hunted out there. Next time I do it will likely be as a resident, to my wife's chagrin.
