Kimber 1911 ambi-safety

The fact that it's from the workshop of the Mad Madam MIM was not an issue before or after I bought it. Many 1911's utilize MIM parts as a cost saving measure. I guess I just expected more as so many worship at the feet of Kimber.
So, let me rephrase - does anyone have any comments or experience of the cross pin tin type of ambi compared to the more familiar 'wing' type (MIM or machined) held in place by the grip panel? Alles klar?

I have one on my Kimber Rimfire and I have a Fusion wing type on a Colt and the Colt stock ambi safety on my Rail Gun (both held in place with the grip panel).
As far as issues regarding quality with the Kimber... I have none. I never was bothered by the quality or lack thereof. Sur, you can tell the workmanship isn't on par with the other parts manufactured from bar stock when you compare them. I have several other bar stock ambi safeties that I could mount onto the Kimber but I really don't see a need.
In terms of practical use, it does the same job as the others only in a different way. It's advantageous in regards to which grips you can use because you don't need the cut-out for it to work. I like the fact that when it is mounted there is no way for it to creep out of its place.
All in all, unless your part breaks or you just don't like the look of it, I really don't see the need to change it. I kept mine and I sleep well at night.

I've also got an Ed Brown 'wing' type coming. My wife's new R1 will get one or the t'other. My Serie's 70 Gold Cup has a SS Swenson 'wing' type and it has never given the slightest problem, the grip panel preventing any lateral movement.

safety on my kimber was quite a easy task. i am a bit more attracted to the ambi safety's with the tang... but thats more of an aesthetic thing.

I think we're all resigned to the fact that MIM parts are here to stay in most guns. When it comes to the various options, you pays you money - you takes you choice.

well if you are aware of kimber parts being mim, why'd you buy it? in my opinion, i think it does the trick just fine. what bothers you about it? do

I don't have a problem with MIM...Colt uses some MIM and so does Wilson Combat on some guns.

But yeah, I have several Fusion parts on my 1911's. I am very impressed with their ambi safety; feels rugged and heavy and very ergonomic. I have a trigger and other parts from them. The only parts that disappointed me were their sights.
