I went with a used mcmillan recently because wildcat has a very long lead time at the moment, or did in the summer.

Seems nice, I certainly hope it doesn’t crack though. Can’t say I’ve subjected it to much

Lol fixed supposed to be cracking. The fill Of the McMillan edge you can actually peel away with your finger nail. It could be just the issues with the sako 85 And that is why McMillan doesn't inlet for them anymore. But my experience the wildcats are far superior

I’ve used a few McMillan hunter stocks and prefer Wildcat CF ultralight stocks, not only are they better but they are made in Alberta, Canada and don’t take 6 months to a year to receive.

I’ve owned and used several McMs over the years. Both Edge and non. Still have 3. I like them and they’ve been good overall. But I really do think they need to update some of their designs.

That said, I do have a UL Wildcat and Tikka SL with Gary right now. The blank was impressively stiff and light. With good ergonomics, for me at least. Really looking forward to the finished product and floggging on it in the mountains!
 
The problems with McMillan stocks is they make one pattern stock and cnc inlet to suit the application.Consequently the inner structure of the stock is just fill with not a lot of strength.The lighter weight fill option especially,its like recycled drywall dust opposed to a wildcat that has a fiberglass inner structure to support recoil better and make it lighter weight and more rigid.The McMillan has a really nice exterior finish no doubt .The advantage to the Wildcat is the sky's the limit to modifications such as palm swells, comb heights, negative comb colors , barrel channels,forend shape etc.
 
Gary do these criticisms apply to the SAKO specific stocks like the one on my 338 Aiii? Specifically the inlet issues, I suppose problems with the edge fill are universal.

Time will tell I guess. It’s my first high end synthetic stock so to me it just seems stellar in comparison to factory options

I guess it could be all of them but I've only heard about the sako 85 And that is Probably why McMillan does not make them for the Sako 85 anymore. They don't make any of their stocks for that model anymore
 
Did you have a SAKO specific stock or a hunters edge etc with SAKO inlet?

I have a SAKO hunter, looks like they still make 3 SAKO specific stocks

I guess only time will tell for me

Edit: didn’t notice you referenced the 85 specifically
