Kimber vs STI?

LOL at that Trojan picture.

You posted that to show how nice it looks? Like I said, about as nice as your average Glock.

Wow, just look at that beautiful finish. It looks like it was painted with barbeque paint.

Like I said. Not flashy, but quite functional.

I dont do alot of high volume shooting so I am curious. What are the frequent breakdowns you noticed?

Usually broken small parts.

I don't own one, so I never really care to investigate any further than that.

Kimber for style
STI for function
Sig for both
Norinco for neither

i REALLY want to buy a spartan 4" or 5" but can't genuinely justify a third 1911 in .45ACP and i don't much want a 9mm (don't reload for it)

STI, SIG, Colt, Les Baer, Dan Wesson and Night Hawk are the go to guns for 1911's.

STI for best all-round with price factored in.

Sig for style + price + functionality = value

Les Baer for very high end, yet still affordable for us mortals, arguably the most accurate 1911's out there.

Dan Wesson really good looking, owners swear by them cost about the same as a colt.

Colt is the original 1911, chosen by Marines MARSOC to replace ancient 1911's in service has to mean something.

Night hawk is the best I could only buy it, if (never going to happen) I win the lottery. My dream 1911 is the Nighthawk T3 stainless, for the next terminator movie in the works Arnie MUST use it.

I like 1911's except for the barrel lug, I personally know of none that has had a problem with it, but I have seen and heard stories on the internet. For us in Canada not a huge issue, but if I was deployed and and had 1911 which is high in round count, the thought would linger in my mind.

I've got 2 STI 2011 that are used for IPSC. Both run like champs but like anything use it hard enought and things will break, both are custom builds so not the greatest for a fair comparison. Just to muddy the waters a bit more, have you considered Dlask? I own one of his single stack 1911 in 45 and the fit/finish are impeccable, slide to frame is super tight and it's Canadian made to boot.

I picked the 1st one they had up on their website, but please do enlighted us all as to what you think should be considered "nice looking", or better than your average Glock.

If the appearance of the Kimbers is your thing....buy one and look at it all you want. Maybe you'll get lucky and get one that will run.
My STI Sentinal Premier is the best looking 1911 I've ever seen FWIW.....and it runs and runs smooooth.

I keep hearing that Kimbers only look good. I must have been lucky because after roughly 4000 45 rounds and countless .22lr I have yet to have any "small parts" malfunction. I like the tight fit and trigger of my Kimber. I did not have that with the colt. As for the STI I owned I like the eclipse trigger sly better. But again all of this is personal preference so really these threads are kind of useless. And yes I am just as guilty because I am commenting!

I'm with you. My Kimber works great and I haven't had issues either. I sorta get the bashing because of the MIM and all that but people say this stuff like no other guns use MIM at all. Also, I can't remember exactly but I posted in a previous thread but Kimber sells something like 7 times more 1911s than all the other major manufacturers COMBINED so with that many more guns, obvs there will be that many more problems.

I try to stay out of it and like I said, I somewhat understand where the hate comes from but I take solace knowing that mine is awesome.

STI guns are shooters - if you want the ability to run the gun pretty hard, they're your best bet for an off the shelf gun. Kimbers? - well they do look nice, don't they. Do a search, you'll see that some very savvy 1911 people have had fairly bad experiences with Kimber.

our wicked friend Google says this:

"kimber sucks" gives 2.3 million results
"sti sucks" gives 1.6 million results
"norinco sucks" gives 1.4 million results
"ruger sucks" gives 0.3 million results

and "1911 sucks" gives 1.9 million results

"glock sucks" only gets 1.0 million results

"woman sucks" gets 116 million results............................................... I didn't check details on this one, i'm at work. probably ###

And you believe this to be a good thing ? Kimber has flooded the market with their pistols. Walk into any LGS and there will be a ton of Kimbers in the case. Mass production can sometimes = Poor QC. The reports of their CS alone has me always buying another brand.

Ahahaha, there you have it. The most legit results right from the internets. Ruger wins. I have only owned a Springfield and Colt so I have no opinion, just thought that was funny.

*cough*

springfield sucks = 1.9 million
colt sucks = 3.1 million

seems kimber is better than colt (aka the original 1911)
hmm.... glad i bought the ruger.

but i also bought a sig. that got me 5.9 million "points"

hmmm....

maybe this internet thing isn't all that reliable??????????????

:p

all i can say is, is that a lot of the hate for kimbers is way too emotional i feel. i have two kimbers
one gold match and one eclipse(which i am pondering on selling)

out of the box; jammed quite a bit(the eclipse more so), but the gold match was quite accurate from
the get go. the eclipse sprayed all over the place.

after 100 to 150 rounds after; the gold match stopped jamming and the shots were very accurate.
eclipse jammed less and the gun became very accurate as well!

they just needed to be broken in... i felt kimber let me down at the beginning, but who's to say any gun
is perfect out of the box?(actually my sw 1911 is the best damn gun i have right from the first shot so my expectations
for these were high as well)

but again, i really feel this hate for kimber is unjustified. the gun is great. jamming can be resolved; i feel kimbers have
to be oiled a lot more than regular 1911

Clearly shows this is a "SPARTAN" (which only comes in .45ACP). The Trojan finish is much nicer and comes in .40.
