Kipplauf Club

Stumbled upon something recently that made me think of this thread:
https://www.dantesports.com/en/product/falco-arms-overtop-single-shot-f210/

Pros: very competitive price...includes QD scope mount...folds (!) for storage/transport...

Unknowns: weight?...safety mechanism (de-cocker?)...safety "lock" button?

Cons: .308 only?...fluted barrel/muzzle brake (maybe pluses for some folks)...yet another bulky, clunky style of scope mount...overall, a gun almost too ugly to look at for more than a few seconds at a time...

More info probably is almost certainly available somewhere on the internet...but for such a hideous rifle, I just don't care enough to look for it. :)

Falco arms makes some interesting looking guns; cool to see their stuff in Canada

That model is not a winner for me but I like the look of this one: https://www.falcoarms.it/en/product/timer/

They also make a more traditional kipplauf

Dante has a few of their folding combo and folding over unders for pretty reasonable prices. Turkish reasonable. I am curious but “ you get what you pay for” seems to apply when it comes to guns more than most anything else

They make their combo gun in 410/30-30. That would be one heck of a truck gun

Lol, some interesting guns there. The Overtop is still butt ugly; the Timer even moreso, but it seems that it is more of a utility-grade gun that might make an interesting toy, especially in .44magnum. I can't imagine what they were thinking when they made the decision to put a colour-case-hardened finish on it. Talk about lipstick on a pig...

The Alpine isn't hideous; how's that for a ringing endorsement? I don't care for the shape of the opening lever, and I chuckled when they referred to it as an "absolute novelty".

The winner there is the Cobra, IMHO. It's so fugly it's cute; depending upon price, I'd probably love one in .22lr.

Ha! I like the timer! It’s like an ugly little Ruger no 3! Too bad it doesn’t have irons, a little iron sighted 5.5 lb 44 mag would be perfect for keeping in the fiat panda and dealing with wild boars in the vineyard :dancingbanana:

I’m tempted to email Dante and ask them what it would cost landed. If it was in the 700 price range it might be tempting… provided it comes with the muzzle brake and rail of course :D

When will these euros learn the North American way and start making QD rings for the rails instead of bulky QD mounts is the question.

I think there is some kind of legislation in the EU that requires a QD scope mount to weigh as much and have at least as many moving parts as the rifle for which it is intended...:)

What is a good price for a new Blaser K95, half-stock without engraving, these days, or is this an "impossible to answer" type of question? Is the K95 near the top of the pack in terms of quality--among the Krieghoff, Merkel, Luxus, etc., offerings? Finally, is the Blaser Saddle scope mount easy to acquire?

I think the k95 and merkel offerings fall into the more “ modern” camp. Jager locks, alloy receivers, decocking safeties, over the top Germanic styling etc. I can’t rate them for you but the krieghoff offerings seem real fancy.

It’s my understanding that the Haenel is the same design as the merkel but with some polymer parts? Definitely worth looking out for if you are not concerned about looks.

Euro scope mounts are easy to acquire from optics trade .eu

Ellwood Epps has a hogs back, black received K95 for $6200... outside of auctions, that's probably the best price you'll see. Precision optics has a used K95 in 6.5 CM for $6900.

I got my new style K95 from reliable gun in August for $7500 or so. Now, the same gun in 308 is over 10k at precision optics. Blaser's prices go up every year (normally not that much, though!)

The K95 is towards the top... but so is Merkel and Krieghoff, I'd say. All quality guns. I've never seen a merkel k3 or k5 for sale in canada.

Blaser scope mounts can be found all over the place.

Precision optics
Ellwood Epps
Westcoast hunting
Calgary shooting center
They show up on the EE used
Euro optic as mentioned...

That's good information, USPfan; thanks for posting. Are the receivers on the K95s alloy or steel?

Apologies I made an edit before you quoted it, addressing the mounts.

K95 receivers are aluminum I believe. But still very strong. Pretty sure there are k95 steel receivers that can be had for a much higher price.

If you have any questions at all about k95's, feel free to reach out any time.

Well, one thing I've wondered about with the K95 and kipplaufs in general actually is their accuracy potential. Rifles with two-piece stocks often have accuracy problems (some Ruger No. 1s, for example), whereas guns with one-piece stocks and the barrel free-floated usually shoot better. Some owners of single-shots have reported having to do a lot of fiddling with the forend and hanger to get them to shoot well.

The fore ends of most of these guns are designed to “float”.

I haven’t had any issue getting 1-1.5 inches with hand loads in my gun. I am happy to “settle” for a 1 moa-ish load though

The reason my two K95's are my only big game rifles are because they're switch - barrel and extremely accurate. I get 1/2 moa shooting off a bag with two of my barrels, the other two I have yet to shoot but I expect they're similar.

The newest model from merkel, the K5, which is identical to the Blaser K95 other than appearance and styling. The Blaser offers a more modern look and handling as opposed to the much more traditional Merkel. That being said, both companies offer various models and options in terms of customizations. The Krieghoff uses a different style of action, similar to a lot of the custom gunsmiths in Germany and Austria.

With regards to the mount. Both the K5 and K95 mounts return to zero. Although, the Blaser mount is universal between different Blaser rifles and models which is bonus. I use one of the QD mounts on my R8 and is simple to use.
