KMG Hunting Safaris 2016

KMG, those appear to be Cape kudu, dark faces and relatively short horns.........yes/no? I have a nice but not huge (50") greater from Zim and a gorgeous 50" cape version from RSA, supposedly the biggest Cape ever taken off that property.......but they probably tell every hunter that.

These two are probably the most stupendous trophies I took in all my hunts there and are both well beyond any expectations I had for these species.

Ya Hoyt, I was smiling about the wonderful haircut I had just got in Harare.........I think I must have stumbled into a butcher shop instead of a barber shop !!!!! It was also early on with the second wife, still had the ability to smile back then..........

Sorry KMG, didn't mean to hijack your thread...........your photos just brought back some good memories that I thought I might share.

I would have guessed that the smiling stopped at the tail end of #1... no pun intended...

c-fmbi, You are quite correct all of the ones posted above are East Cape Kudu. Southern Greater Kudu are found north of us in Limpopo. That is a corker of an East Cape Kudu. I don't get to hunt as much as i would like while busy working, but here is one i took a few years ago. He was fighting with another bull and this guy won the fight unfortunately for him!

 
c-fmbi, That is an an incredible Vaal Rhebok, congrats. I was just up in the Drakensburg mountains last month, very nice area of RSA. That is a fine Nyala as well, here are a few from this year taken by clients.



 
Kudu are really wonderful animals and very interesting to hunt. Of the sixteen animals my brother and I hunted in the Eastern Cape a couple years ago, Kudu were the most challenging and interesting. The closest thing we have in Canada is elk, not that they really compare directly, but a similar level of excitement. Our elk season starts in less than two weeks, Kudu might have to wait for a year or so, but I'm definitely going back for more!
 
Great photos and stories...I just booked a Zambian Buff/Croc/Hippo hunt for next July...can't wait...
 
KMG, PM if you prefer, ignore if even more preferred my curiosity just has me... Are you an agent for KMG, an owner, investor, relative...? I'm interested because I looked into investing in an African operation (though not in RSA). There were a good many issues that prevented the kind of involvement I was comfortable with. I applaud any efforts to chase the adventure life you've got me curious on the particular circumstances of yours.

Patrick, an argument that has been debated many times over:) SCI lists them as a separate species. Rowland Ward does not. DNA testing does lead credibility to the theory that they are indeed separate sub-species, however I will concede that scientific classification only lists three:
1.) T. s. strepsiceros, southern parts of the range from southern Kenya to Namibia, Botswana and South Africa (under which Southern Greater and East Cape kudu rank)
2.) T. s. chora, northeastern Africa from northern Kenya through Ethiopia to eastern Sudan, western Somalia and Eritrea
3.) T. s. cottoni, Chad and western Sudan
We would both agree that there is a size difference (horn) between Limpopo and the EC and for hunters sake there definitely has to be a way of identifying the difference between the two, especially in managing expectations of what to expect when hunting certain regions.

Ardent, I rep KMG here in North America. I become the point of contact for folks on this side when planning a hunt in Africa. Africa can be a very tough place to invest in as you know or for that matter to even find a trusted hunting outfitter, so having someone on this side can make it much easier for lots of our hunters. I actually first went to hunt with KMG whilst on an Army tour in the DRC. Liked hunting so much with Marius at KMG that I went back again to hunt after my tour was over and I had redeployed. Marius and I became friends and the wives became friends as well. I started out after that by helping with the shows on this side and that naturally evolved into becoming their rep. We usually hunt together once a year in Africa, and get together for a little downtime on this side once the shows are done or meet down at DSC etc... At the end of the day it was pretty easy to get involved in the hunting industry as we were friends before I became associated with KMG. But first and foremost it has been really easy for me to rep them as I truly believe that we offer good hunts, good times and a little bit of adventure.

Ardent, without being to forward, are you the same Ardent in regards to Rhinocon?
