Knoxx / Blackhawk! SpecOps Stock for 870s

thanks! ill look into that. Don't really see how that would be cheaper though? I could just throw a limbsaver on and be done with it.

why on earth would you want that? it would make a bead/blade entirely useless since it would be impossible for you to sight down the barrel properly.

even in its current config, the comb of the Knoxx SpecOps is a touch too high when it is fully collapsed, i can only sight down the barrel/rib properly when its extended by a stop or two. the Knoxx SpecOps stock needs a bit more drop, if anything.

I'm planning on ghost ring sights anyways. I rarely use the bead.

if you are looking to reduce recoil, the recoil reducing version of your stock will soak up far more than a limbsaver.

i realize your Fabarm came with it and you couldnt help it -- but i really dont get the point of the NRS, and dont understand why people keep buying them. the entire purpose of the Knoxx SpecOps stock is to reduce recoil.

you get the odd 'bah, im so uber cool that recoil doesnt bother me' comment  -- but even still, if you are installing the same stock anyway and have the opportunity to drastically reduce the recoil of your gun you would be retarded not to take it regardless of how super cool and 'recoil-proof' you are.
i roll my eyes every time i see an NRS on the EE.

Yea, i see your logic, I was surprised it didn't come with the recoil reducing one actually.

its a shame, but probably is about reducing cost - which seems to be the primary criteria on guns these days. a lot of people get suckered into the NRS -- they buy them and dont realize its not the same thing, since it LOOKS nearly the same. in the states you can mail your NRS back to the manufacturer and they will upgrade it for the price difference, but i dont think thats possible/practical from Canada.

IMO put an ad up on the EE for your NRS (one of the 'im so cool i dont feel recoil' guys will buy it) and start looking for a proper recoil reducing version - itll work way better than just a Limbsaver pad, and if you want later on you still have the option of adding the pad as well :p

The one issue with the fabarm shotgun is it is supper light.
This is allmost never a good thing with shotguns,Knoxx/blackhawk were not intrested in making a recoiling stock for the fabarm so we made the Adaptor plate for The Shooting Edge.
This was a few years ago, still knoxx are not intrested in making one.
Fabarm sale around the world are growing bigtime, so you may see a recoiling stock one day.

^you dont need a mesa high tube adapter to sight through ghost rings unless your head is the size of a walnut.

The DX R2 dropin is a hit and miss with the QC, they have very poor heatsinking... I had one go poof on me, and I would not rely my life on one for that reason.

true: but aside from one that was DOA, none have failed on me yet (out of about 8). just like any piece of gear they should be stress tested first. simply use it in 'non-critical' applications for several hours before mounting it on your gun: if it has heatsinking problems it will overheat and fail within that time. the main QC problem with the DX modules seems to be inconsistent soldering, but this can be inspected and tested and even fixed if youre handy with a soldering iron.

regardless, a DX LED dropin will be far more dependable than any incandescent bulb it is replacing - so its a moot point. incandescent is sh*t.

i really dont get this thread.
my problem with the Knoxx is that there is not enough drop at comb for me sight down the rib properly unless i extend the stock (my g/f has a smaller head and is fine with it).
how are you guys not able to sight down ghost rings with it? you must have teeny tiny heads, or maybe my head is too big.. lol.

with regards to the cantilever mount question: i suspect this would be more dependant on what you intend to mount on the cantilever. a low-profile sight you might be OK, your average scope+mount youll probably need a raised cheekpiece. this thread is proof that you cant really rely on what someone else suggests regarding comb height - youll have to test it out yourself.

Putting a sling attachment between the stock and gun won't cause any problems will it?

i dont think it would be a great idea.
it would create a >1/4" gap between the triggerguard and the handgrip, and the triggerguard moves back under recoil. its not inconceivable that you or someone that uses it could get their finger pinched in there and mangled/broken when the gun recoils.

there are sling attachments on the stock, or if you insist on having one at the rear of the receiver you may be better off just tapping one right into the large aluminum block above the grip - most of it is solid.

if you are using an NRS, its a non-issue since the stock doesnt move.

question for you guys that installed the front forstock that comes with the knoxx stock, how do you like it? is it worth changing? I have the tactical 870 with a XS ghost sight and it has a short front stock.

It looks rugged but personally I don't like it. Plus is a little too long in the back and if you have a shotshell carrier may become a problem depending on it's length.

Don't do that, I try it and it doesn't feel right.
If the loop atachment is small it might work ok (hook mount or HK style), but if it is big like the GG&G "square" sling atachment it might hit the stock when the receiver goes back.
Better get any of the Mesa Tactical Receiver Mount Loops.

One recent problem I found with the Knoxx is that if you install the forend that comes with it you can't use a six shot side saddle as the forend comes back a lot deeper than the original 870 forend. You can either bubba the forend or put a four shot side saddle like I did. You can still put five shells in the butt if you buy the Powerpak.
