I love how ugly seems to be a factor in things millitary.

It's all about perception. Do you really think the Spitfire would have captured the hearts of the English people if it didn't look as nice as it did?
Talk about a great propaganda platform.

You can make something mediocre, and people will buy it if it looks cool- Think of a dozen cars like that... But if it's ugly and it sells, it's gotta be good: A10 warthog, glocks (don't get mad, I've got one...), lots of muscle cars, ak47, chilli, curry, you know a bunch... The funny thing is beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but if it works great, eventually it looks beautiful.
