Korth Group Very poor to deal with

They won't warrenty a US imported scope as they posted on their website over a year and a half ago as to do so would condone ITAR infractions under US export laws

That has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of legally imported Leupolds that came from the US. This has more to do with trying to stake out a monopoly of Leupold product being sold in Canada.

Friend just bought a VX3 2.5x to 8x Boone & Crocket reticale Sat at Lebarons in Ottawa
paid $596 + taxes best price he could find in Canada.
Checked 5 sellers in USA Midway, etc all listed scope at same price $479 some with free shipping,
Looks like Korth the Distribitor for Canada has quite a monoply and sticking it to us Canadians

Maybe the Leupold's sold in the States are inferior to the ones sold here in Canada and that is why they won't honor the warranty and ours cost more.

I agree. That should be part of the deal if Leupold grants you exclusivity to distributing their product in Canada! You should have to service all the scopes in Canada...

Lots of up and coming competition. I will NEVER buy Leupold product after I heard about the post 2010 restriction on warrenty. NF and sightron both make better optics in the same price ranges as "comparable" Leupold products. BAM! Enough said.

This has nothing to do with ITAR and all to do with money. By not supporting US retailed scopes Korth felt he could 'force' Canadians to buy his inflated $ imports. Obviously not working.
Where did you hear that BassPro was 'backdooring' scopes?? Do you really think they would risk everything, including jail time for execs. to save a few $. They are acting as a distributor, to their stores, therefore bypassing Korth.
When Korth began this ransom scheme I bought my last Leupold. I have between 40 and 50 Leupold scopes, but no more. If the manufacturer can't get a handle on their Can. dist., I can go elsewhere. Nightforce, S/B, Zeiss, all make good stuff. (No Bushnel) Mark

WoW!
I warned about stuff like this when they announced there monoploly and I got a tun of hate thrown my way.
Stories like this just make me sit back smiley and laugh. Not at the poor people that have to deal with this monoploly but at the Korth group them selves.

I had one dealing (phone call) with Korth a few weeks ago regarding my rcx 2 trail cam. Was not impressed with the guy on the other end. I try to deal with the US as much as possible because i have found the US service much more friendly and professional.

This is a Bass Pro thing. They're too stupid to understand things like distribution rights and export rules so they just do whatever they want.

Korth never sees the stuff on the shelf at bass-pro. So they don't support it, it's not their product. Bass-pro bypasses them and just rolls their gear across the border in trucks.

Sorry to say it, but if your going to buy from an American company, then you'll have to do your warranty work in America.

:agree: I agree... that's the price of saving a few bucks.

But apparently, they don't have an "exclusive" if Bass Pro is back dooring them.

Then maybe they should handle the warranty for the products they sell at lowball prices...

The bottom line is they are all still Leupold scopes legally imported into Canada either by Korth or Basspro or by some other lawful importer/exporter (ie Prophet River).

Myself and many others have been dealing with them for 25 years with no issues great service, communication and products. They won't warrenty a US imported scope as they posted on their website over a year and a half ago as to do so would condone ITAR infractions under US export laws.

Simple explanation you just can t please everyone all the time even if you try.
For the most part they have been doing a great job. Going to the BBB seems a bit tacky. Either you give them a chance to fix it or you complain on the forum and to the better business bureau.

Do you want it resolved or just want to complain to someone/ everyone.

I agree :agree::agree:

I once worked out a trade with a fellow competitor for a Leupold Mark 4 16X. The scope didn't come with a sunshade so I contacted Korth to purchase one. I explained how I came into possession of the scope and a sunshade was shipped to me free of charge! On another occasion, I busted a turret cap on a VariX III and was shipped two caps without billing. This all happened back in the mid '90's and it was a woman who took my call each time. Service was polite and cheery. I guess something must have changed?:(

Korth gets paid to do warranty work, by Leupold, they don'r do it out of kindness in any way.

It is Leupold's responsibility to warranty their product. they have chosen Korth to do this, and need to deal with it. Some of us are not real happy with their choice right now. I have had no bad experience with Korth, but their strongarm tactics to maintain monopoly piss me off, so I am voting with my feet. You do as you please. Mark

What part of exclusive distribution rights don't you understand. Korth has had them since I started dealing with them 25 or more years ago. Every authorized dealer in Canada gets warrentied scopes from Korth. you live in Canada so expect to pay more than the price charged in states that is the price for a building, staff utilities etc (a cost of doing business in Canada) and yes the bad word in Canada a reasonable expectation of profit!

You get extraordinary service and product without having to wait 6 months to get a US serviced scope back from Leupold USA. Yes the export licence to get it back into Canada can take 2-3 months from the time it is fixed or modified.

You want the same price as US then circumvent the exclusive distribution network and wait for months for your work, upgrades or repairs.
If you want fast reliable service buy the approved Canadian product from the authorized distributor in Canada. You can't have both.

Sorry to hijack your original post to the OP but a call to Jim, Matt or Tony should get this resolved quickly and easily. In my experience they earn every cent they get for this distribution with great service. One anamoly that perhaps hasn't been brought to the right persons attention is no reason to bad mouth the 30 year exceptioal service and turn around time.

There lies the problem. Right there my friend. WHY can't I have both??? Why is there a diff. between the product and the APPROVED Can. product. It costs $ to do business in the US as well, sometimes more than here. Monopolies just seem to need more to do the same job, that's why they work so hard to keep the monopoly. What part of monopoly don't you understand???

Is Korth buying at US retail prices then trying to make a profit??

I buy Nightforce for prices similar to what they go for in the US but retailers expect me to pay 20% more for a scope because it is a Leupold?? Thus the reason I don't own a Leupold I guess.

Please post a link to a US store or distributor that does not pay utilities, and has staff that work for free, and does not profit from selling Leupold scopes...

Competition keeps the prices down. Take out the competition by creating a monopoly and well...
