I have an old leupold scope in need of servicing. I bought the scope second hand and have no way of knowing where it was purchased.I emailed the Korth group and in the response email they mentioned that the scope must have been purchased in Canada through one of their dealers.
I am wondering if anyone has had any issues with getting warranty work done on their leupold recently?
One of the reasons I have always been so faithful to leupold is because of their warranty.

Go to their on line site and read what is scripted.
Don't grab the dog by the tail.
Do as they ask for a note and send it off as per their instructions.
The wait shouldn't bee oarible.

I just sent an older Leupold M8 6x to Korth for service. I just mailed it with a letter of the problem. I have since had it returned from Korth as repaired. now it's on EE

Korth posted years ago that people buying Leupold scopes from the USA outside of there imported models will not be serviced in Canada. part of this was a trade deal & to protect Canadian dealers.
So if you want Korth to repair your scope it was to be imported by Korth and sold in Canada by a Canadian dealer. Korth will know by the serial number when it was made & if it was imported into Canada or smuggled over the border.

Could be smuggled over the border by Bass Pro/Cabela's....they don't use Korth to import their scopes which can cause an issue. Seems like an unfair practice to only warrantee Leupy scopes they can trace through their books. Can't send it to.Leupy USA for repair, and Bass Pro/Cabela's are "final sale" on all optics.

It does seem unfair. You buy leupold for their " best in the business" warranty. I for one have always justified spending that bit extra for that warranty, just a bit of piece of mind. I suppose it is something to think about when buying a used scope.

Buying Leupold from Basspro is no longer a potential issue...take a look of my thread here

Any Leupold scopes dated after Nov. 2011 not originally imported by Korth Canada will not be serviced under warranty. You can tell the date of manufacture by the serial number on your scope, located on the underside of the scope tube, by the windage and elevation adjustments.

Scopes from 1974-1992 started with a letter for a serial number, after that they ended with a letter. (prefix/suffix)

Serial number dating:

Prefix Suffix
E = 1974 A = 1993
F = 1975 B = 1994
G = 1976 C = 1995
H = 1977 D = 1996
J = 1978 E = 1997
K = 1979 F = 1998
L = 1980 G = 1999
M = 1981 H = 2000
N = 1982 J = 2001
P = 1983 K = 2002
R = 1984 L = 2003
S = 1985 M = 2004

I believe that the Bass Pro issue was sorted out a short while ago. Direction came from Leupold that Korth was to service and warranty those scopes like all others.

We really need to get this from the horse's mouth and then sticky the information.

how funny things are ...

i got lecture from Tony at Korth because as a dealer i got Leupold from USA for myself and legally import again for myself again. and it was in 2010.

there is nothing i can say that I got better deal buying south than buying in Canada and with dealer prices in USD for Canada.

Leupold had at that time a worldwide warranty, work will it be Germany, USA or Canada ...

no more.

but you can still ship it to the mother in Oregon and they will fix and get a permit to export it back to you. I did with some that Korth did not want to fix or can not.

seems im not the only one that got that issues with them ...

variable today in Leupold will be Redfield Revolution (cheap and not bad for my tasks) and only fixed power in Leupold brand.

learnt it the hard way from them ....

Leupolds are great optics....to bad they have terrible warranty service here in Canada. No warranty coverage from if purchased from Bass Pro and now no coverage from Cabela's, these are the 2 biggest shops in Canada. Even if you buy in the EE you run a good chance of getting one they will refuse to fix. With the current "no questions asked " warranties from Bushnell, Vortex..Burris ect.. alot of guys aren't even looking at Leupold anymore.

Yes and the horses mouth being Leupold not Korth.

I wonder if IRUNGUNS would assist warranty issues for scopes imported through them?

If there are issues in this regard then no more Leos for me in the future.

guys a few of you have bad things to say about, Korth warranty I have dealt with both Korth & Bushnell. my experience from both was Korth was fast no issues other then shipping the product one way out of pocket & it was a scope which was repaired & returned in less then 15 days.

As for Bushnell warranty took 3+ months I ended up having to pay for repairs as they claimed it was out of warranty by just under a year, Note this was a range finder. I ended up paying Bushnell for repairs and shipping both ways.
So coming away from that I wasn't happy but the item was repaired.

Now be it from any job including you own how many times where you pissed off at work or had a bad day at work??? Then take it out on someone who didn't deserve it??? I'm sure this has happened at Korth or any other place.
Tony who is a CGN member, Last I heard he does the warranty work for Leupold / Korth by him self, you don't think he has bad days too. What if you're on the phone and your being the D!ck? ever think of that?

I don't know if Tony has help in this department, but I'm sure he is swamped at times. he just doesn't do repairs he also cutting CDS dials. sh!t like this takes time, I'm sure Tony is very busy everyday.

I do know when I talked to Tony years ago that they do there best to get the item repaired or replaced and back in the mail in 2 weeks. I know a few other companies that can't do that in a 2 week time frame.

experiences vary for all of us. your experiences didnt match mine and so far didnt have to sent any to Bushnell.

I get pissy at work all the time, but then again I deal with @sshole, gang members, drug dealers & drunks.
I try not to let this crap bug me but then again it eats at you. but that is the job I have.

So I can see that happening to a person on the phone dealing with complaint issues all day long & trying to get work done at the same time.
You'd get pissy too once in a blue moon.

I know a gunsmith that does this, he now only answers the phone once a week for 4 hours. as he just can't get any work done if he answers the phone all the time.

maybe Korth needs a tech person that only answer calls & does light duties like cutting CDS dials. Freeing up time for the big jobs.
