Korth groups new warranty policy

I contacted Korth and asked them to supply the names of the "Authorized Dealers" in Alberta . I was subsequently informed by Korth to to send the scope in and they would "take care of it". It would appear attitudes have changed for the better. One should be able to purchase a Leupold scope anywhere in the world and still have it repaired at their local Leupold repair facility. Happy to see the Consumer finally being provided with top notch Customer Service.

I'm surprised of the speedy change of policy on their part. The day I started this thread was the day I recieved the email from them stating that they only do warranty work on the scopes bought in Canada from one of their authorized dealers. They have won back my loyalty

I guess so.

But since a poster on this thread just said he had an old M8 serviced that hasnt been made in a long long time and there is no proof of purchase for it I guess thats a pretty good indication.

Leupold has always warranted any scope they have made, regardless of whom the current owner is. I have an old M7 (not M8) 3X that I bought second or third hand to use on a 375 H&H. Guess who has serviced and updated it over the years?

Also, had a 2-7X28 that rode on a 270 Husqvarna Featherweight, the real Featherweight, for hundreds of rounds. It eventually got beat to death on a sheep hunt, during a terrible fall and then a long slide down a talus slope. The image was still there, but was football-shaped. The reticule was also there, but not in focus, and the ocular lens had a big chip out of it beside the dent in the housing. It was a long trip back down the mountain that day. Fortunately I had a spare in camp, always do.

Not only did they repair it free of charge, they installed the next generation erector assembly, and replaced the entire ocular lens group....and paid the shipping back to Whitehorse! This on a scope I bought used, again at least second hand.

I think the "we only warranty scopes we distribute" came about when our dollar was high and you could buy from the US legally though one of the importing gunshops for significant savings.
Not much of an issue now that our dollar is dog#### lol.

They said the same about my Prophet River purchased scope (new this year but they import from the U.S).

I initiated dialogue with Leupold directly who took care of the Korth side of things. Leupold themselves don't care where the scope was purchased. They warranty their products and will ensure Korth does the same as their Canadian warranty center and distributor. In my case Leupold sent them a new replacement to send to me.

I purchased a used mk 4 a wile back and past 250'300 yards I seemed to be having a hard time keeping windage, even on calm days. Turns out that the turrets aren't quite square to the reticle, so I hope to be sending it in sometime soon.

I called as well - all Leupold is covered for warranty.

wish I could get a refund on the redfield revolution that I paid to have repaired a few years ago............ it was purchased from bass pro in Vaughn. this was about three years ago. wish I had kept the receipt and I could send it to them and see what would happen.
"the tech in the back" is what the receptionist called him had the final say and he wouldn't warranty it but would repair it at a charge. cost me almost as much as a new one at the time.

Could be smuggled over the border by Bass Pro/Cabela's....they don't use Korth to import their scopes which can cause an issue. Seems like an unfair practice to only warrantee Leupy scopes they can trace through their books. Can't send it to.Leupy USA for repair, and Bass Pro/Cabela's are "final sale" on all optics.

Seems like another unfair practise to sell Leupold scopes without warranty. That's what is happening when retailers import the product themselves and don't handle warranty claims. Leupold gave Korth exclusive distributorship in Canada and Korth would fulfill the warranty without recourse to Leupold. So retailers who bypassed Korth cut them out of the profit and if Korth fulfills warranty claims on those scopes they are supporting those retailers at their own expense without benefit. And the cost of those warranty claims on non-Korth scopes would have to be built into the price of Leupolds that Korth distributes in Canada so everyone who buys a Korth imported scope would be helping to subsidize the cheaper prices that some pay at Bass Pro.

It is certainly not good if you get left out by such a policy but it is understandable why a business would decide they had to do it.
