Krinker Plinker -- *NEW* Model

Hey canuck, didnt somone try to make a 200 rnd .22 drum at one point?
As well, this is moer to anyone who owns one already... can you fit a different AK grip on it? Perhaps one with a rail system? Thanks!

If it turns out that the short 8" barrel version kit really can no longer be exported from the US, I wonder if C&S would be willing to make a custom version of the Krinker for the Canadian market:

If the barrel on 16" version was made a couple inches longer (18.5"?), the rifle could remain a folder and still meet the 26" overall requirement for non-restricted:

*** NOTE: "Artist's Conception" ***

The fake suppressor could be deleted from the kit.

I went to a gunshow in Florida today and looked over several Krinker Plinkers offered for sale. The latest one with the new stock looks solid and well made. The barrel length extends all the way up inside to the end of the fake suppressor which can be screwed off.
Guys were asking $450 for them including the 10/22 inside.
I don't know if I'd go that much though .

Spoke to John over the weekend... he is going to see what he can do for me about making a customized kit for Canada. The suggestion of an 18.5" barrel is out... would require a minimum order of 200 kits and the price would still be considerably higher.

We're seeing if there's another solution...

Of course the other way to maintain the "non-restricted" classification for the firearm is to simply weld the release button on the folding stock so it is fixed in the open position.

Well one of the guys said that the kit costs $300 and he bought a 10/22 for $140 at a gunshow.
I personally wouldn't pay that much for the kit. Maybe $200+/-

I'm interested in one of these kits, but not interested in having to re-register my 10/22 as a restricted weapon. I have no problem aesthetically with the longer 16" barrel version w/ or w/out the fake silencer... in fact I think I prefer it. I'd prefer not to give up the folding stock option. As I understand it then, there is currently not a version that satisfies the non-restricted criteria in Canada while maintaining an operable folding stock. There was some reference above to a possible CDN variant - other than simply creating a longer barrel (due to production costs). The only other option I can imagine for adding 2" to the OAL, when folded, w/out making the barrel longer, would be to add a solid milled block between the receiver and the folding stock - mating the two pieces and essentially extending the frame by 2". Anyone see any issues with this (aesthetics aside)?

/GC.

a 10/22 fpr 140 bucks? Why isn't my luck that good? As for the krinker, I'm not so sure I like the folder. Is it possible to dress one of these in regular AK furniture? I think it would look neat with a nice wood set on it...

I received a written ruling from CFC that these kits are legal for sale and installation.

If you install it in the "standard" configuration then the rifle will have a folding stock that results in an overall length of less than 660mm. That means the rifle must be re-registered as a "Restricted" firearm. Yes, you can go from a Non-Restricted to a Restricted, in this case because it is a commercial customization... that is straight from the Technical Advisory Group
CFC-CAFC.

If you want to maintain the non-restricted status of the firearm, then you have several options.

  • You can tack-weld the stock release button so that the stock won't close.
  • You can take off the fake silencer can and add a standard 2" to 3" AR flash suppressor and weld it in place
  • Make some other modification to the firearm that extends it's overall length and maintains a minimum of 660mm when the stock is folded.

Anyone buying one of these kits from us, (if you're at all concerned) we'll be happy to include a copy of the letter from CFC with your purchase for your files.

Mark.

What flash supressors will fit? Or is it just a matter of welding any random one one.

It's a standard thread so any that are designed to fit an AR will fit this. I grabbed a Vortex just to see if it would go on and it did.

Hey Mark from Questar:

Are you going to be importing the 8" barrel version?

-- Dumbguy

It's all a question of whether State Department approves the export permit for 8" barrel kits. Up until now they have refused to approve any rifle (or kit) with a barrel length under 16".

They approved the kit I imported. Are there different rules 'cuz I'm an individual and Questar is a company?

The folks at C&S Metall-Werkes tell me there will be an upgrade kit for the first generation KPs. Depending upon price I'd look at upgrading.

My first question is are you sure there was ever an export permit issued for your kit? Who got that export permit? My understanding from talking to CS Metal-Werkes is that they have never been a registered exporter which means (if true) they couldn't have applied for export permits.

Also, State Department constantly changes their policies. They used to approve short barrel exports from the US... that's why you see lots of short AR's from as recent as a year or two ago... but then State Department changed their policy and now won't approve them for civilian end-users.

It has nothing to do with whether the applicant is a company or an individual.
