L2, Rifle: Spring Rifle Match at EESA IPSC

IPSC hit factor scoring kind of is at fault here. If it were Time Plus you could just engage them and move on and still do decently on the stage...

Very unlikely. A +10 sec penalty for each miss or failure to neutralize will screw you even worse than 0 hit factor for the stage. It was more like the stage balance of the match. If this stage was a medium course with more longer shots added to other stage, we might have seen a different outcome.

No one disagrees that practice is a key here, and as you can see everyone who placed high at this stage are members of EESA or another club that has 300m range. If I'm not mistaken, we have only 2 clubs with a 300m range... I guess that stage was a stunt to get more members join EESA. :)

Well, if I had of been able to have my way, those 300 Metre targets would have been Colt Speed Steel, that would have really got the whine at fever pitch.

Anytime you guys want to put some stages together, and show us how its done, feel free, i'll even help you set it up, and probably thank you for the effort.

Apparently the short range shots were to close, and long range was to far.......

Hopefully next weekend, the shotgun shots will all be within your skill level Eugene; you should maybe go early, you can let them know what is to hard for you so they can accommodate you!

Please don't think that we are ungrateful or that we didn't have a great time at the match or that I thought that the targets were inappropriate in any way, shape or form. Many of us don't have access to facilities that can come anywhere near EESA's level so we just don't have exposure to these conditions. That is why I wanted to find out if such a CoF was something to be normally expected and what to do to prepare for it. I think those are perfectly valid questions as only about 40% of the field recorded any score on that stage, which means that a good number of us just didn't have the skills to ID and engage targets at those ranges. By the way, I would have liked to offhand a plate rack at 150 - reasonably easy to hit, already known where all the targets are.

As I mentioned earlier, you now know what to practice.

The reason I wouldn't make it an IPSC match is because of some of the Rules....no Par time, have to use specific target types (EESA has auto resetting targets that are perfect for long range shooting, and saves a pile of time, but aren't the correct size), etc..

The only other thing i can add is that it should have been obvious that stage 1 was a low hit factor stage....that should tell you some thing about spending 30 seconds trying to hit poppers at 300y...

Hmm... The top HF for that stage was 1.04, which equivalents to ~0.95 points per second (roughly 5 seconds per shot to hit all As for this HF), i.e. you had about 5 seconds to hit that far steel and if you keep missing after 10..14 seconds you only making things worse... But that's to stay competitive... having non-0 HF at any price would be a different story.

Fawk. If you guys continue this next weekend, I'm going to request a different squad to shoot with and pretend I don't know you.

To EESA. THANK YOU for hosting the match. I for one have NO complaints except for my mediocre performance.
Looking forward to the next match regardless of what umbrella it is under.

Craig.. You just have to do a better job of catering to everyone's specific, individual needs.
I mean c'mon... why set up a match if every shooter can't ace every stage?

I hope they are above my skill level......always looking to improve my skillset!
This one is too easy.
No comment....
:)

You guys put on a good match.
No one here really has any experience with rifle matches, so while we all have opinions, none are right or wrong.
Hopefully we'll see a few more matches pop up in the future.

Texas star at 200 meters, off hand. That's what I would have done.

I just wanna say once again that the match was great, that it was tons of fun and I apologize if any of my comments came off as criticism. I was genuinely looking for advice and information due to my inexperience. All the volunteers did a top notch job and the club has facilities to be proud of!
