LAPD approved duty list, what would be your choice

I was tempted to point out which of the guns on that list are steel, but then I realized: anyone who actually has a policy of not shooting polymer or "alloy" guns (whatever that means, I assume aluminum, although obviously steel guns are alloy as well) doesn't know enough about guns to really bother having a conversation with.

The most proven combat handguns on the planet are the G17, the USP9 and the P226.

Polymer, polymer, aluminum. If "only steel" is good enough for you...you just don't really belong in a serious conversation about handguns.

You knew I was going to post it...heh heh.

G17 would be my instinctive choice...but would also consider G22 and possibly G21, simply because LA cops might deal with enough vehicle-involved shootings that they might need to be punching through windshields semi-regularly. Heavier bullets do that better.

Would rather have a 20sf, though, which I believe to be a better performer than either the 21 or 22, and which would definitely give you the advantage on intermediate barriers.

x2.

Am curious what they use/approve for duty rounds for each though.

Speaking as a former L.A. area resident, that's probably one of the last cities where you'd want to be selecting a low capacity pistol of any kind as a regular patrolman.

I'd go Glock 21, since I don't like .40 and I would be uneasy about the 147 gr 9mm LAPD issues.
