LAPD approved duty list, what would be your choice

Glock 22 or 23. Perfect compromise would be G23 with G22 mags, for the extra capacity :D

I only own 9mm and 10mm glocks, and usually shoot a Glock 19, but if I were to carry one daily and stake my life on it, I'd choose the .40 over the 9mm :)

3rd Gen Glock 34, since it already has extended mag release and slide stop.

Do they have requirement on trigger pull, though?

I dunno, I'd have to handle a few of them to tell for sure. Glocks in general (the 17, in particular) are too small for my hands, and I'm always hitting the mag release because of this. Beretta 92's are also not confortable to me, so that leaves one of the S&W's, but I haven't tried any of them. I've been a long time Sig fan; ideally a 226 in 357 SIG, though neither that model nor that caliber is on the list.

I used to have a 1066 that I wish I still had so I guess I'd take a 4566. Either that or a G22 primary backed up by a G23 backed up by a G26. They can all use the same G22 mags.

All recruites are issued the g22 on graduation, after probation they can pick from the approved list and buy from the Acadamy store all the gear.
I did find out that revolvers are allowed but only the old guys that are retiring still carry a 38 or 357. Apparently for them they have to take a course and get certified to carry a revolver.
When an officer chooses a different duty gun to buy, they can keep the g22 as their back up or off duty pistol.
I did find that special units such as swat and narcotics can chose 1911's if they want, but they are the only ones with that kind of leeway.

The other interesting thing I found, is LAPD officers have to do weapons qualification once a month, and tactical shooting every six months. They shoot the most out of any big city police force around, compared to NYPD that qualifies once a year. So they are intense and like the gun fighter mentality.

I would carry Glock 21 with a larger mag, and carry a g22 as a back up and off duty pistol. For added safety maybe a g27 on my leg of a 38 special as my burner.

So you could take a test and carry a wheelgun? That changes my vote!

If I could I'd go with a Smith & Wesson Model 657 4". Barring that a Model 66 4". I would not feel undergunned with either.

I would feel undergunned with any handgun by itself in many parts of L.A., "fight your way back to your rifle" and all of that.
