LAR-15 mags and couplers

Not a fan of the coupler. The problem I see with them is when they are dumped from your AR, the mags are dumped on their feed lips. Not good!
IMO.

These couplers rock. Here's what it looks like (with some black electric tape on the joint):
Also covered the bottom (feed lips) with cardboard and electric tape to protect the feed lips. Granted you can only use one side, but it's now a 10 rd full sized magazine (although a bit pricier ;) )

I'm not sure what's going on with your angle??

Isn't the whole point of the couplers to get 20rnds?

The longer length is a Godsend when trying to do quick mag changes. Some have made simple extensions for them just for that reason. This way is just a little more expensive :) BTW Contondant, your AR seems to be missing its cowbell. I like it.

But if you run a dump pouch of some sort, there wouldn't be an issue.

Unless speed is an issue in your competition... Mucking about with a dump pouch costs time. I run the same coupled get-up, using cheap Tapco AR15 mag dust covers on the bottom mag. They are nice and rubbery, and avoid any damage when you drop-free.

I am still in awe on why c-production makes angled mags. They should fire the chief of design man seriously. I like the black colour better on c-production.

I was told that C-Products and ASC were once one company... When the one partner left and started ASC he owned the design for the mags. Maybe C-Products had to modify the mags to clear patent issues?

All I know is I have both, and find the C-Product Mags WAAAAAAY better despite the goofy angle... My ASC one gather dust as I regularly get FTF out of them!

Just a thought....how about coupling the LAR-15 next to a pinned 30 round mag....that way you still get the look of longer length and not have to worry about dropping the LAR-15 on its feed lips.

Looks sorta like this and the LAR-15 would be shorter of course. Pic courtesy of Carolina Shooters.

I have a PWS MK107 in 7.62x39 and the mag that comes with it is curved like an AK. So these mags
look great on that rifle, but have to agree that it just does't look right on my 223.

Heres an idea. Cut the loop off an original magpul mag assist and use it to cover the coupler and provide an extra gripping surface. Might not be too mag pouch friendly but I bet it would look good. Anyone got 1 they could try?

Also, I found grinding the lugs off the couplers allows the follower to bottom out on the flat surface of the coupler and allow enough space to squeeze in a 10th rd with a little wiggle room. It wont take an 11th rd and the tabs at the front of the mag still catch on the coupler.

Any idea where to get these Tapco AR-15 dust covers? Brownells is sold out.

EDIT: Hical has them

NOOBS :p jkjk I had same problem and solved it this way... always modify the followers and not metal. reverse the couplers and file down the middle of the follower where it contacts the notch of the coupler.
