LAR-15 mags and couplers

Wow. I think I should pick up a few of these for the T-97 that I'll be getting this Spring....... :nest:

Seriously though, I hope these are still in stock by the time I have enough money to get the 10 pack of mags, couplers and a case of Norinco. If there was a combo deal I suppose I could start chipping my mastercard out of that block of ice I have it in at the moment. :onCrack:

Here are different configurations both with angled mags and the straight ones. For the angled mags, you flip the coupler around and install backwards. They do tend to slip apart depending on the type of coupler. I solved this issue using 3" electronic shrink tube...

Where did you get the black plastic mag cover?

So I was just wondering, Got my Fruit Bars lol (mags) and couplers from Canadaammo today, 20 days after the online order, (hear this is a decent time) but what I'm wondering is which configuration, from a practical ergonomic point of view is most user friendly? I don't dislike either from a cosmetic stand point.

Config A - This one?

Config B - Or this one?

Thanks in advance.

I thought Config B is the proper way, and the Config A is when you install it in reverse.

I read here that if you install in backward/reverse (Config A), you have to modify it to keep the mags in place. How are the mags holding up when you install it backward (Config A)?

Due to the angle of the mag, if you want them to look normal, you have to install it backward. However, people said that if you install them backward, they don't stay together.

Please advise.

Nothing to advise, you laid it out perfectly.

No, I want to hear from his experience. I find it strange how can the mags come lose so easily when you install it backward. With my ACS made LAR 15 mags, I have to soft hammer it down to fit it perfectly. So it is hard to come lose eventhough I do not put the screw back in.

I found it better in the AK Banana style myself when shooting off a bench due to clearance. You can go either way depending on the looks, but if you want it straight you'll need to cut out a small metal tab and drill a hole through it so you can use it as a backplate to secure the mags together with the set screw. Banana style will fit together out of the box, no mods. Depends on your flavour... I kinda like the AK style myself ;)

The floor plate tabs can loosen over time due to recoil, also not all floor plate tabs are as tight as some. The screw on the front of the coupler is to secure the mags in place so this doesn't happen. Installing the coupler backwards eliminates that feature.

It's possible to do with some mods. If you go back a few pages to post 70 AWOL shows how to do it.

I've seen the whole thread. Not interested in modding the couplers to fit these C products mags. I'm happy to file a few rough edges on the ASC ones. Less work to make the two products work as intended YMMV.

I am still in awe on why c-production makes angled mags. They should fire the chief of design man seriously. I like the black colour better on c-production.

The ASC ones have the markings engraved so painting them is not an issue, I plan on doing mine when I catch up on my other projects.

Yeah, I'm going Config B, after some mussing it seems like the right choice. And the screw is doing its job snugging it up, although the fit is so tight it seems like a redundancy.

If it's going in an XCR all you gotta do is fold in your stock and your set AK style!
