Yes, just got back day before last, was absolutely incredible. Took the big old bull at very close range in the jess, only shot I had was a neck shot, my PH did the "Get this shot right." with his eyes, as this guy was at most 30 yards from us through the thorns and shrub, and likely more on the order of 20-25 yards. He dropped to the shot, the 300gr TSX found its place, but I put two more in him for insurance. Death bellowed twice, and it was a done deal. He was 2,000lbs, ended up netting more than 400kg of meat (900lbs+), hanging.

I was stunned how tough African game is, even Ryan and Chris of the Hunting Chronicles TV show, who I met in Johannesburg and who've likely shot more game this past year than I will in the next 25, were blown away. I shot an Impala directly through the heart with a 270gr TSX, completely destroyed the heart, and blew out the opposite shoulder, rendering the leg a flapping appendage. That 130lb animal, that just took a .375 H&H to the heart and lost a leg, STILL ran into the jess with only 3 legs, no blood pressure, and no heart. These things just didn't give up... The Blue Wildebeest I blew out both lungs with a 270gr SP from my .375, and he ran 200-300 yards into the bush and hid himself before dying, reacting like nothing had happened. I used to call BS on African game being tougher, unless it was just bigger of course, but even pound for pound the game over there makes ours look like sissies. Just one hell of a will to live.
 
I don't need any convincing that they are tougher. I'm sure part of it is due to the 2 chambered lung. It takes them longer to run out of air.
It's funny how hunters are quick to say that elk are tougher than moose, and buffalo are tougher than anything, yet have trouble with some antelope being tougher than deer.
 
Indeed! The Impala is the toughest little animal I've encountered, shot literally a truckload of them, and only one bang-flopped, to a 300gr TSX buffalo load. I edited out the one Impala pic I had up, as I just noticed the size limitations for this thread, though I suspect the Impala could show Elk a thing or two about toughness.

20/08/2010. 47" Kudu shot by my friend in the Willowmore area with a Sako 338 Winmag. 2 Bulls and a cow. He took the 2 bulls and left me the cow! These Kudu roam free across all the farms and jump fences like theyre not there. Thanks to effective sustainable hunting there is now more Kudu in the Eastern Cape than 20 years ago!
