I am looking to pick up a factory Mauser with 06 bolt. I have a new 35 Whalen barrel that needs a home. What would be a good choice? PH, BSA, some Voure, lots out there. A 98 and a shorter stock and trigger. You ideas. Thanks AJ

Umpteen million Husqvarnas at tradex. Older Parker-Hales on the military action. I don't like the later ones with the detachable mag, but that's a personal preference. Voeres seem decent, never handled one though. FN sporters, but they're a bit pricey for a project gun. What you pick depends a lot on what style and quality of wood you like.
You can buy a nice rifle from tradeex in 3006 for cheaper then just a mauser action. Or tradeex has brand new commercial mauser actions listed aswell. 500$ though. Although as said above a you can get a 3006 rifle for that..then you can switch the barrel and not need all the other parts too

"Normal" mausers were sized pretty much for 8x57 / 7x57 size. In 1950-ish, FN made apparently the last production run of 98 military mausers for Belgium - in 30-06. Has appropriate mag and a little half moon notch at rear end of the front receiver ring. Was made to accept charger reloading, as were all military mausers. If building up a "sporter" for 35 Whelan, that one might be a good choice??

I have a Husqvarna in 9.3x62, made on a commercial FN mauser 98 action - Model 649, I think. It came with the standard two stage mauser trigger, and can accept any alternatives that are available for a mauser 98.
My FN Mauser Supreme in 300 H&H has an excellent trigger.
my Whelen is built on a PH aka Spanish built action...they are loose and clunky and not a "TRUE" 98 action but they seem to always work and are reasonably accurate....if going to a military action make sure you get a 30-06 length magazine as an 8mm length with restrict bullet depth too much IMO....

Husqvarna did not use the Supreme action and actally, FN copied some features of the 1640 itself inspired by the Brno 21/22 to create their 1640 line in 1953.
The FN Supreme came with the streamlinesd bolt shroud and hinged floorplate and the Sako trigger with side safety and only instroduced in late 1956 being released on the market in 1957.
What HVA used are the transitional "commercial" actions that were getting rid of the military features starting in 1947 when they gradually started to get rid of the left side thumb cut-out and the clipper strip holding lips of the rear bridge. Then, late '48 to '49 they went with the "H" ring configuration.
HVA lost their exclusivity deal with FN in the hands of Sako in 1950, so they decided to introduce their own action mostly based on SM M38 and the Brno M98 SM, and Sako started selling their new Hi-Power line in 1951, introducing their trigger and the Supreme action in 1958 and they kept buying the FN Supreme 'till 1960, then they disigned their L61R action and stopped using the shelved action in 1962 when the L61R production went full throttle.
