Largest Animal You've Taken With a 22-250?

I used a 222 just last week to shoot 2 1200lb steers and it work just fine so I guess a 22-250 would have been over kill.

We use a .22 rimfire on cattle all the time... but I wouldn't hunt deer with one... apples to oranges.

Bought a brand new BLR 81 22-250 many years ago and used it once on a raccoon, sitting in the safe since that time... JP.

Bout 70lb wolf at 200 yards. Dropped stone dead.

Natives i work with shoot deer with .223 and .22250 all the time. Any 50 or 55g soft point does the job. I would step it up to .243 myself but they work.

A very well regarded PH I've hunted with a couple of times in Africa once told me that before his outfitting days, he worked on a large ranch in Zimbabwe shooting game for meat rations, up to and including giraffe. My mouth fell open when he told me his favourite rifle for the purpose was his .22-250. In fairness, he didn't consider it hunting by any means -- animals were shot from the vehicle as soon as they were spotted, and it was simply a job. I've shot enough giraffe myself to know how heavy their bones are, including the skull. But he was quite emphatic about never having lost a giraffe when using that rifle -- one shot at the base of the ear, and apparently that was that. I respect the man enough to not question the veracity of what he said -- but it still left me shaking my head.

Shot a doe in Man using 63 gr sp. She went maybe 10 yards after the bullet went through the boiler. It was a R700 varmint barrel with 12x scope....a terrible deer rifle for spot and stalk.

Many coyotes and a couple wolves... I have too many options to ever choose a .22 cal centerfire for deer sized game.

I have shot a few pigs, goats, sheep and cattle on my hobby farm with my 22-250 over the years. Head shots mostly, usually 50 - 60 gr SPs, under 100 yards. It penetrates just one bone with the authority, and instant energy transfer. Its my slaughter rifle because its so effective, and wont over penetrate.

Around here the .22-250 is a popular wolf-caribou- seal rifle, and even moose are occasionally taken with them. I'm not a small bore advocate, but that doesn't seem to prevent anyone else from filling their freezer with them.
