Hey all,

I'm in need of a laser bore site for a .338 Lapua Magnum. I cant seem to find any specific .338 lapua ones in Canada that are in stock. Does anyone have any suggestions on a bore sight that will fit properly and are in stock?

I bought mine from Amazon - it's called "Strong Tools" I think, and it had various extensions/attachments (12 of them I think), with the higher one supporting .69 - .78 cal. If I recall it wasn't too expensive, maybe $50 or so. Comes in a hard case.

Will that work with a .338 lapua tho? if so Ill buy that right away. So many are just .338 win mag and that isnt the right size.
 
What do you guys think of the Wheeler one that just attaches to the outside of the muzzle? Been eying one myself but not sure if worth the money. Thanks and apologize for side tracking this a bit.
 
I use one of those that slides into the muzzle about 8" and has various diameter expandable plugs that screw to the bottom so it covers a wide range of calibres... I would never buy a calibre-specific unit...
 
I bought one 'like' the amazon unit from Cabelas about 5-6 years ago, Cost about $70 back then. Looks like the same unit but there are several like that in the "also viewed". Mine is still on the same battery but I've only used it a dozen or so times.
As said, it'll get you on paper but it is hard to see in daylight. I always did mine in the evening or a cloudy day.
 
I originally bought a couple of bullet style lasers from AliExpress. They get you on paper, but you need to fiddle with them a lot to turn on and off the laser. I then bought one like shown above with all the extensions. I find when you rotate them inside the muzzle, the sight also moves a bit, so don't expect them to be spot on. Maybe mine is just not as precise as other models. I'll usually rotate it a few times, kind of have it circle the bullseye before I call it "sighted". Then move on to shooting...

Yeah I bought some of the specific caliber ones as well that fit into the chamber and while it is neat at first, it becomes a pain later as you need to take it apart each time to take the batteries out. And then my .223/5.56 ones, while they fit snug into the chamber, I always had to put a rod through the muzzle end to push them out of the chamber. Then unscrew the cap to take out the battery to turn off the laser.

My only problem with the muzzle end ones with the adjustable fittings is that they don't quite play nice with some muzzle brakes.

Any of the SiteLite products will work, SL100, SL150, SL500. The SL100 & SL150 are red lasers and the SL500 is a green laser. I have used other green laser products and must say if you can afford a green laser then go with that.
I found the beam on the SL100 to be fairly weak in intensity, the SL150 has a larger battery so the beam is more intense and could possibly be used outdoors on a overcast day. Never tried the SL500 green.
Sitelite has an software program that can be downloaded for free to print your sighting target, handy and easy to use.
One thing to note on my purchase of the SL150 is that the beam projected onto the surface was not very crisp and and round but rather oblong in nature and noticeably flared out on the periphery of the obround. None the less I
still used the center of that obround to sight the rifle in which turned out to be rather accurate when I took out on the 50yard range to do the actual zero. I contacted Sitelite about the fuzzy beam and they said it was normal, well
I disagreed with them considering the the SL100 beam was clean and crisp at the same distance just not as bright, anyway I returned the SL150 to Amazon wit no hassles and will wait for the SL500 to come back into stock. I still
consider it a quality product it just seems I got a subpar unit which I wasn't willing to accept considering the cost.

Laser bore sighter

So I was curious as to what you guys use for sighting in scope, or red dot on your rifles ? I’ve seen the lasers that look like a cartridge with a wire attached to them to a power box. Once turned on the laser goes down the bore for getting the scope/red dot relatively close to on point. Also have seen the ones that go right in the end of the barrel and they have different adapters for different calibers, not sure if I trust those though. My local gunsmith charges 20$ to bore site scopes on. So I’m curious as to whether I should invest in my own or go to him anytime I mount a scope/red dot. All though he has told me recently he is moving out to another province by end of summer and don’t have any other gun smiths near me, VERY rural area I’m in.

I mostly have 22s I plan to shoot, and have my one hunting rifle is a 30-30, I do have a scope and red dot laying around I purchased just haven’t mounted any yet.

What bore sights do you guys use or suggest getting ??

I use the wheeler professional. I put a piece of tape on the magnet so that there's 0 chance of marking any of my firearms. It works with any caliber and it's reliable and extremely repeatable.
