Laws on Ammunition??

Thanks for the brief info. Just to clarify, those 3 types of ammo, and those 3 types alone are the only prohibited types correct?

Tracer is also prohibited, it is based on the heat produced by the burn, as this causes fires, there are some low heat tracers, that may be OK. At the CSSA AGM we had a very interesting talk from person in charge of the Explosives act.

A warning from him, if people (idiots) continue to misuse Tanerite as is happening, it will become prohibited, it is up to us, they are watching what's going on.

The limits on storage are very generous, (all this is from memory, so may be a little out) ammo as others have stated 225kg, primers a lot, I think it was 10,000, powder: Separate dwelling 20kg inside (50 kg outside) total 70kg, black powder 10kg. In apartments, attached dwellings 10kg smokeless, 1kg black.

Doesn't matter what you store it in. In a fire you're getting combustion energy from all sides, not just the primer. The enclosed powder doesn't have enough oomph to even have the bullet penetrate a thin piece of drywall next to it. SAAMI produced a video for firefighters especially on that topic. You can find it on YouTube.

I saw that video a real eye opener. All the ammo in that video were stacked on pallets they didn't test them in a sealed container that said it is the expanding gases with no place to go inside a sealed container, pressure has to go somewhere. I saw that in an other video. it would have to be a jam packed container. I would assume a full ammo box might or might not contain it.

Really? Is there a lack of demand for certain types of ammo? Because I see subsonic and tracer are legal but don't see any products in Canada aside from .22

They are legal to own, not approved for import by NRcan. What's here already is all that's allowed. Subsonic is allowed and I've seen it in like 300 blk and .22. Then obviously like 45acp is default sub sonic.
