Ya that's one thing that sucks about importing. Canada Post takes any were between 3 days to 2 weeks to release an item. Also the long it takes usally means that the opened your package and you will be paying some taxes although you won't pay the Fed Ex & other's "handeling fee".

Sorry guys, I hadn't been monitoring this thread..

Like SH said, I didn't do the work myself so I don't have that great of an idea of what was done. The screws on the UTG strip pretty easily (I had almost stripped mine when installing) so the rail was retapped with beefier screws and the brackets were reinforced. At least that's what I took away from the explanation. Kevin is a wizard with the M14 and M1 rifles so I didn't really ask to many questions. I have two rifles that were tuned by him and I am very happy with both.

There are guys on AR15 that run a stock UTG with an eotechs and they are happy with theirs. Ive had no problem with mine.
 
What I'm guessing Kevin has done is machine up 2 new mount brackets out of possibly thicker and surely harder material than the original brackets. I'm only guessing though.

I paid about $9 in taxes but at least with USPS, I didn't have to pay the handling fee which is nothing more than a money grab.

A51's FAQ says they will not ship to canada, so that is not a whole lot of use. And doesn't Quesar's website have prices in CAD? (For all the difference it makes at today's high dollar)
 
Is Fabsports.ca out of stock already?
If he still has some it would be far less painful to support his business than to muck with importing.

Also, this Kevin that modified the utg, does he have a cgn contact? Interested in having him contact me.

I agree about supporting the Fabrice et al, but for the half the cost of the in country price, it is a little hard. But after it climbs much higher than that, it isnt really worth it.

A little google-ing leads me to believe Kevin Keon works out of P&D. I would much rather pay extra for a reinforced version of the UTG tri rail than the original. If you end up contacting him, I would appreciate a word or two about the work he did.

I geuss that mean's I have to ship them back the SkS sight tool, light/laser & more goodies I recieved from them in October?
 
I was thinking we could easily start producing extra strength mounts to replace the stock UTG ones, but don't want to steal Kevin's idea if he has plans of making a whole bunch more.
I'll try and find out what's up
 
FYI in leaper's catalogue they show a rear picatinny mount that works with the rail so users can mount standard type optics. I bet the price is stupid cheap like all their other stuff.

Second... the UTG-MNT-HGM14TR is $84.99 Canadian (never was priced in US dollars on our website so not sure where you got that info).

Unfortunately we do not have the luxury (that some seem to) of being able to export from the US without getting and paying for export permits... we also don't have the luxury of being able to avoid paying Canada Customs the legally assessed DUTY of 7.5% that is payable on all Chinese Made rifle parts. Costs of importation (as a business) have to be passed along so our Canadian pricing is always going to be higher than the discount pricing you can find in the US and if they are willing to illegally ship the items without getting permits then that's their risk and you're good luck.

One point I would make... when we sell product we help stand behind it... when we got a shipment of these very rails that had defects we exchanged them for our customers at no cost to them and we dealt with the manufacturer to get replacements. When you buy from the US directly you have no warranty and it's up to you to try to ship it back to the US (good luck with that :) ). I like to think it's worth a little something to deal with a Canadian supplier and especially one that helps service what they sell and aids in getting warranty service when required.
