Question for the great oracles...For leather holsters,slings,etc..What's the best stuff to use on the leather to protect it,and keep it in good shape.?

Cheers..R..

I'm no oracle and just a newb. But I've used lexol cleaner and conditioner(they are separate products) for ages on custom made saddles to high end motorcycle gear and everything in between with great success.

I use boot cream... don't see how one brand vs another is better..Dubbin, Neatsfoot, might even have used lexol like Squisher.
Red Wings are going on 10 hard years now.
As long as it has lanolin, it'll suffice.
The fact that you are even trying is usually enough... Most guys don't bother... Which is foreign to those who do treat leather.

Alright....a conditioner with lanolin...I shall see what I can find...

It's pretty easy...hit a Home Hardware or a Canadian Tire. They'll have few options...if your leather is in good shape...it's remarkably resilient.
I made a trick braid braclet for my gal. She forgets and wears it in the hottub now and again. Salt water hottub... still seems fine.
The secret is good leather... lots of 'Made in China' gear isn't really leather. It's sort of like a thin vernier of nice appearing leather glued onto crap.
Lanolin or not, when than stuff is getting worn... it's just done.
Good luck BTW

Hmmm..all are good suggestions gents, thank you...I have a few tokarev holsters and a couple leather slings that could use some attention...Nothing damaged, just dry from years of storage...

Effax® Leather Balm
Trusted by people with LOTS of leather that gets used. As in horse tackle. A saddle is way more expensive than a holster or a belt so I trust what they use.

It’s lanolin and beeswax.

And no-one here is an oracle, lol.
I like leather and come from a family of folks who generally have some around. Dad used it for living, Aunt 'Gina made custom leather, as does my older sister. We just like working with it.
Seems like everyone who owns a decent piece of leather and bothers to dress it with something...by God they are an expert.
'Cept me... because I don't see how it matters a tinkers damn what you use. The fact that you care enough to clean and treat it, that means more than the product IMO. Can only spin Lanolin and wax into a finite amount of consumer products... After that, it's just sales
We just did this a week or two ago... You might as well ask 'What is the best beer?'... You will get about the same variety of answers. Just drink it and enjoy it...leather, wear it and / or use it well.

Danner makes a very good product that I have used for years without experiencing leather cracking. Whatever you do stay away from the silicon waterproof stuff that the CF used to issue .. it will rot leather very quickly.
Be cautious some 'leather softeners' can also contribute to boots stretching and loosing their shape ... which contributes to callouses and painful blisters
