Hi: I have two lee 1000's and the powder measures are good as long as I use flake powder and no small fine powder like 2400. I bought a new powder measure thinking that the old ones are used when I got them and warn out. I put the new measure on and the same thing, 2400 I swear 1/10 of every measure is slopped out of the measure and down onto the shell plate and I have to keep blowing the powder away from the primer system. I phoned Lee and they asked if the screws were tightened down holding the hopper onto the base of the measure and that is about all they could come up with. Even if I go slow on the press I still get powder residue on the shell plate. I have put some duct tape around the front of the measure to catch any extra powder that is spilt and it is amazing the amount after only a box worth of shells. Anyone have any similar experience with there powder measure? This really is my only problem with the press if this can be solved all the jammed primer feeds will go away. In theory looking at the rubber O-ring I don't know how it spills powder but it does.

I have two 1000's that do the same thing...I believe the powder is coming from the measuring disk. I don't think it 'leaks' but as it slides back and forth some powder gets 'thrown' out and finds its way into the primer system. The only other thing I can think of is that this may happen if I am too 'fast' with the press and perhaps not all the powder has dropped into the case. Not sure if I'm right or wrong and would love to hear what other people think or experienced.

Not an unusual problem with the 1000's for sure. The older models were terrible with the fine grain powders, with leakage and spillover onto the primer trough and everything else:mad: . The new powder measures have an elastomeric wiper on the base of the measure which helps a lot but does not completely eliminate the problem in all cases. I hate to waste powder and the older measure were guilty of that one a lot..
Cheers

RePete: That is what I thought also, I have tried the adjustable measure and the disks and they both leak the same. You wouldn't think that 1 thou would allow powder to get by but it does. I stopped using 2400 in it and just use flake type powder and I have spillage but very little. I actually thought of bringing the tolerances closer and that should take care of the problem but for the amount of times I use 2400 I am not sure that it would be worth the effort. What amazes me is when you phone lee they act as if no has ever had this problem before and it must be me and only me that hasn't set it up the correct way. Like I said before I have just used duct tape and kind of mad a dam on the front of the measure to help keep the powder from spilling down on the primers. It would be neat to have a little plastic catch tray that would fit to the front of the measure and get rid of the problem, or have Lee actually fix it to begin with.

Just found this on there web site:

Auto Disk leaking

One fix is to reduce the amount of clearance between the hopper and the disk by carefully sanding down the risers that the hopper is mounted to. Place a disk between the risers with a piece of scotch tape on top, and use a file or sandpaper attached to a flat surface, and file/sand until contact is made with the scotch tape.

Another is to purchase the update kit (catalog #90377) which includes a hopper with a soft plastic wiper in the base, which is in light contact with the disk when the hopper is attached. This strikes off the disk as it slides under to drop the charge.

Well I have the update kit and it still leaks so I guess the only thing to do is file it down a bit.
