So I bit the bullet, pulled the trigger, whatever pun you want to use, and added some red to my blue reloading set up. My Lee APP arrived earlier this week, and yesterday I set it up. My xl650 was near the end of my bench, and I was able to punt the APP on the end of the bench 90deg in relation to the xl650 (if that makes any sense at all) so by loosening the one set screw on the Dillon case feeder, and turning it 90deg, it feeds right into the APP. I used a heat gun to flare the end of the APP feeding tube like a funnel so it fits snugly inside the Dillon case feeder tube, and it seemed to work flawlessly (the Dillon to Lee case feeding) I’m still relatively new to swaging primer crimps, so I’m proceeding cautiously not wanting to over swag. I ran a small batch of about 500 of my own once fired surplus Chinese 5.56 brass through, and it seemed to work amazingly well. In the batch, was also 5 remmigton 223 (also once fired by me) and they all gave me a bit of trouble (I am thinking it’s probably in my settings), but the rem brass is noticeably harder, and the cases stick on the swaging pin, or “pop off” with enough force that they fly over the casing collection bin. Also, the APP is not swaging the rem brass, but actually shearing off the crimp ring. Again, because of my lack of experience, I’m not going to blame the machine. I will keep playing with it until I’m certain it is set right.
