I am an Enfield virgin, I just picked one up and need to pick some brains with info. It is a NO4 MK1 ROF (F) 8 /45 serial FC244xxA, on the butt there is s ZF, Mk 3 sight, very tip of barrel marked as NP 303 22" and another marking under that says 18 1/2 " It seems to be covered in some black waxy substance that does come off with cleaner and from what I can tell some cosmo. Had to use cleaner to get at the model number. From what it looks like ,the bolt and the reciever have the same serial number. The serial number is on the ring that goes around the butt stock. Barrel is very good and the bolt face looks good also. From what I can tell. it was cleaned but not very well due to the black waxy buildup on the metal, it has not seen very many rounds through it.
Any info on it would be appreciated and also how to get the cosmo off the wood without damaging the markings? (Murphy's oil soap?)I would like to take it out this weekend and fire it to check the functioning. Man I love a new gun, even if it's old
Thanks
