Lee Enfield Markings FOUND ANOTHER ONE, see last post

Ok, I see it now.

I'm going to hazard a guess but I think I can see a "U" just forward of those letters as well in the second last picture of page 3 ? For some reason, the word "Sully" comes to mind but I'm not quite sure as I don't specialize in Enfields.

Sully is the first thing that I thought too but I`ve only seen surrey or sussex and those were stamped on the barrel of sporters. This one has been sporterized but nothing stamped on the barrel. There is one section of the barrel that looks like it has been made smaller in a lathe(see pics in this thread)

I joined the Royal Signals (National Service 2 years) in 1954, yes that is a real date, not a phone number!

Was issued a Mark 4? Lee Enfield, made in Canada. Bran New, never cleaned the goo off it, Cosmoline? Went and found the armory, and with the help of the armorer, cleaned it up... It was gorgeous!

Not sure, but I think it was made in 1947? The first time I fired it, 50yds. The corporal, said, you load it like this, you lie down, and shoot it like this? Five minute lesson. I had never fired anything but .22 rifle before, but soon got used to it, the sights were dead on, other than a kick in the boot "Slow down" that was my lesson. The stock was a rich mahogany finish (stain?) I think it followed me about in Catterick (Yorkshire) but after the 6 month wireless Operator Training, did not see it again. And then stationed in Germany.

I am sure I am in the wrong section here? If so sorry.

Definitely in the right section Mike. Welcome!

Just a B.W.A.G.
I'm start to believe more and more that there is a Maltese Police Force connection here.

Have an L1A1 with SPF for Sinapore Police force.

"Military
Main article: Armed Forces of Malta

The objectives of the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) are to maintain a military organisation with the primary aim of defending the islands' integrity according to the defence roles as set by the government in an efficient and cost-effective manner. This is achieved by emphasising the maintenance of Malta's territorial waters and airspace integrity.

The AFM also engages in combating terrorism, fighting against illicit drug trafficking, conducting anti-illegal immigrant operations and patrols and anti-illegal fishing operations, operating search and rescue (SAR) services, and physical/electronic security/surveillance of sensitive locations. Malta's search-and-rescue area extends from east of Tunisia to west of Crete, covering an area of around 250,000 km2.

As a military organisation, the AFM provides backup support to the Malta Police Force (MPF) and other government departments/agencies in situations as required in an organised, disciplined manner in the event of national emergencies (such as natural disasters) or internal security and bomb disposal.

On another level, the AFM establishes and/or consolidates bilateral co-operation with other countries to reach higher operational effectiveness related to AFM roles."
