I've got a Lee Enfield sporterized no1 mk3 and I noticed the sythetic stock thats on it is touching the barrel. It already shoots 1.5" - 3 shot groups at 200 yards, but I'm curious if any benefits would be seen by making sure the barrel is free floating and not touching the stock in any way? Thought I'd put this question out to the gun nutz community and see what your response is before I tear it down and break out the sandpaper on the stock.

One thing to keep in mind is that these rifles were designed to be very accurate over a century ago, well before free-floating and bedding were anything more than theories. Just do what Stevo says, leave it as it won't get better in any noticable way

The lee Enfields were in fact bedded, and there is a very specific system to the particular type of "center bedding " that is used on them.
However , as was stated, I wouldn't monkey with it, center bedded, floated or bedded doggy style for that matter, not if it will shoot 3/4 MOA!!

yep she shoots damn nice, quite pleased with it, and I owe it all to a fellow CGN member who sold it to me!! Took a while to work up half decent loads for 200 yards but it was well worth it. And if anyone doubts me, they can contact my shooting buddy mellow_1 and he'll confirm how well it shoots!

Floating generally does nothing (or sometimes even degrades accuracy) on sporter/infantry-weight barrels. On the non-heavy barrels, bedding them is usully the way to go.
