Does anyone have any advice on what is a good .12 g shotgun for a left handed shooter?

I'm currently looking at the Browning BPS and the Ithaca M37. Also, any ideas on where you can buy the Ithaca M37 in Southern Ontario?

Thanks.

Remington probably still makes the 870 and 1100 LH .
I believe Benelli makes a semiauto LH as well.
Mossberg makes shotguns with a tang safety .
Left hand safetys might still be available for Browning auto5 and Ithaca 37.

Super black eagle 2 in leftie. Mossberg 930 right ejection, tang safety, bps bottom ejection and mossy 500 and 535 right ejection and tang safety.

Hard to beat a BPS for leftie's like me if it fits you right. A new ithaca is going to put you in the poor house for what they want for them. Yes nice gun also but not worth of a grand in my mind for a pump.

I have a BPS I'm right handed but the point is its a great gun never had a problem with it. Have had several left handed friends use it and they all liked it my vote goes to BPS

BPS, Ithica pump, or a specific lefty gun if you want 3 or more shots. A wood gun can be bent for left cast. A double shotgun is a good option if u dont mind having two shots.

I'm a righty but having let a lefty shoot my Savage/Stevens 350 I wouldn't recommend it. His trigger finger kept catching the oversize safety and engaging it slightly. That resulted in a trigger pull that appeared to be somewhere around 60 lbs. Of course your mileage may vary.

I was really leaning towards the M37 but the problem is the barrel is fixed length and choke. Allegedly there will be an interchangeable barrel available later this year.

I'm a lefty, but I'm right eye dominant so I tend to shoot right-handed.

I just got me a Weatherby PA-08 and I can handle it either way.

????? All of the newer Ithaca m37's are fitted with Briley choke tubes have been for a few years now. Is it the featherweight or waterfowl model you are looking at??? What do you mean the barrel is fixed length???

We're both right:

On the sporting guns (with engravings of geese and dogs, etc), you can swap chokes. Barrels can be changed, but they need to be fitted by a warranty center. There is no shortish (18" or so) barrel available. You can't make your sporting gun a home defense gun.

On the defense guns, the only available barrel is an 18" cylinder bore. Both the barrel and choke are fixed. You can't make the home defense gun a sporting gun.

Understand. Thanks for the clarification. I have only dreamed of a new sporting m37 28ga so far and never looked at their home defense stuff. take care

I am a lefty shooting comp trap.
wouldnt bother looking into lefty or righty shotguns as long as it fits you.
Walk into the store and slap it right on your shoulder. if the barrel lines up with your eyes fine, then its a keeper. Specially for cheaper shotguns like bps n m37, just goin to store and grab one. whatever feels more comfortable pullin the trig with barrel sight lining up with ur eyes are keeper. They all eject, pump the same. Few weird ones eject at the bottom and left.. so weird for me... just my opinion.

Bottom line, cheaper shotguns, as long as it feels good just buy it and have fun blowing stuff up, gettin into comp shotguns that will cost $4000 and up, good ol custom order with your exact fit will do. most company or good gunsmith will carve up a spicific stock for ya if you pay the price.

I never ever tried any ithaca but BPS is very durable or its price. dropped in mud, soaked in rain and still works great and does feel comfy for a lefty. if you like to pay lil more, then i'd go with remington 1100 or Beretta Urika. you can prob find 1100 used arould $400-700 and Urika used for $800-$1000 depending on its condition. no recoil for most semi auto shotguns and 1100 has 0 recoil i find.

Firearmscanada.com sometimes do have very good deals off used shotguns. Hope ya find right one for this upcoming summer!

Ithaca's are bottom eject. And at $1100 for a pump gun, The Featherlight can hardly be considered one of the 'cheap ones'.

sry i still think ithaca pumps are cheap.

my taste and urs is different.

Nope you just haven't figured out yet that the cost of the stick you are holding doesn't make the shooter. We all went through that phase
And yes I shot comp started with a 870 in the mid 60's , shot every new gun that came out in between and finished with Brownings and Krieghoffs . I guess they are cheap also.
45 years later I am back to the 870 in just 28ga and having more fun than I ever did .
Ithaca pumps are very well made and far from junk. take care

The M37 Ithaca is the oldest American pump action shotgun being made. Cheap in it's original form it was not. Because subsequent companies that maintained steel throughout, long before CNC machines even existed, (excluding the aluninum Ultralight series) a lineup of future Ithaca gunmaking companies could not compete financially with other American shotgun makers, that cut corners purely to keep manufacturing costs down.
When quality control was at it's best, many experienced shooters prefered the Ithaca pump gun: Including some rather interesting names such as Massod Ayoob, Skeeter Skelton, & CWO Watson the most decorated USN SEAL of the Vietnam War.
I'm sure it's original designer, John Moses Browning, did not use 'cheap' in his description of the prototype blueprints.
However, thier taste and yours are different.
