LEGAL 10 round SKS with detachable mag...accomplished!..

Very nice!

I guess I've been kinda lazy in not making a proper mag release for mine. Maybe I should get on with that! Really, I just wanted to prove that it's at least possible to make the magazine work in the SKS.

Anyway, congratulations! It's nice to see someone do a proper mag adapter with an AR style release.

Have you fired it yet? That's the real test. I had mine cycling by hand, but the first time I test fired it there were problems. It would jam, or not pick up a round. A little adjustment with the exact positioning of the magazine and it works perfectly now.

Eagerly awaiting a live fire video!

id be in if there was a way to make it so no mods had to be done to the gun witch wold take a bit more time

The thing is, that is not possible. It is not possible to make a stock SKS feed from a stock AR15 magazine. One or both need to be modified to make everything work. Sure, it's cheaper, and perhaps easier to modify magazines, but then we revert to the 5rd rule. The magazine is no longer designed to fit in a pistol.

Believe me if i could have done this without mods to either the gun or mag i would have as would a lot more people. To assure someone, there are ZERO mods done to the mags. Ive studied the firearms act in regards to what can and cant be done. I made sure so i dont give anyone any sort of traction on the issue.

About production. Ive been thinking about it all day. The adapters can be made and ready and them just modify the stock and receiver. The turnaround time wouldnt be long. Im just thinking how to go about. Do i present modified rifles for sale with one mag? Just sell the adapters and instructions on how to mill the receiver? Offer for rifles to be shipped, modified and returned?

Ill think some more about it. Believe me, im not getting rich off this. I make WAY better with my day job. I do this cuz i love tinkering with stuff and knew that i can help the community out.

Just a comment on language here (similar comments have been made in other threads). We should be careful about word choice here... "getting around that ... 5 rnd rule" can be misinterpreted as implying that it circumvents some regulation. However, this is not the case. The RCMP has even gone as far as to post clarification here:

ht tp://www. rcmp-grc.gc. ca/cfp-pcaf/bulletins/bus-ent/20110323-72-eng.htm (remove spaces to make link functional).

The bit relevant to this particular thread is the line (quoting from the link above):

"The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in."

shredder -- Hope you don't take my comment as a "virtual smack on the knuckles" as this is not my intention. I know we are all aware that this is all on the up and up but we should always assume that anything we post on the net could be misread/misinterpreted by those less enlightened folks; unfortunately there seem to be a lot of such folks out there and their knee-jerk reactions can make life for the rest of us more difficult than reason would dictate it should be. Anyway, it is a sad reality that, when posting in such public forums, we must be ever vigilant that we carefully choose our words in a way that leaves the antis with the least opportunity to twist them. Might seem like politically correct BS (no argument there) but it's also the political reality in an increasingly connected world with a media establishment focused on Tweets and soundbites rather than facts.

All this said, I'm thinking it might be time for a new SKS if this mod proves to work well. I'm always up for a new toy (within the confines of my budget and tolerance for sleeping on the couch or in the shed... lol). :)

Dude, I may just have to buy a Norkie SKS for you to modify so we can get around that gawddamned 5 rnd rule.

Red Liner; I have a ChiCom that is begging for this adapter. If you were to ship the adapter with instructions as to how the receiver is to be modded...these would make you 1 MILLION DOLLARS!!! Even better if you could supply mags reasonably as well, you sir really have something here. Patent, sell the rights, just sayin?

^^ I fear that the micro pistol mags are gonna be in short supply soon!!

I'm still working out the details of what to offer....

Ideally i'd like to to a few adapters and install them on rifles locally, so the owners dont have to ship them, once they are satisfied, start offering to our "farther" brethren...

We all know why we love the SKS, Non restricted, cheap to buy and cheap to feed. We also see the premium that NR rifles that can run pistol mags carry....Well no more. I want this adapter to be accessible to all. Hard to justy asking 500 bucks for an adapter and mill work on a 200 dollar rifle.

But, i do believe this is appropriate

Yes, somewhat....It feeds, but its not very smooth...The next revision will have so it feeds smooth...

I'm designing in my head an adapter that will feed stripper clips into a mag...something simple...

So....i can just see you there, rolling your eyes and cracking your knuckles ready to chew out a newbie for ONCE AGAIN asking the same damn thing....

well, not exactly....

watch the video....and wipe the drool...

i know another gentleman has grafted an XCR-L mag to an SKS. Saw the video, but that was not removable. As far as i could see all he could do was use the stripper clips to feed the mag. To me, thats kinda a grey area. If a mag is not removable then its no longer an XCR-L mag but a permanent attachment to the firearm.

anywho, comments are welcome....and i'm sure i'll be called a "bubba" a few times....:stirthepot2:

RANGE REPORT!!

works great!
Outstanding!
To bad about having to machine the reciever though.
Now bring it to market so I can buy it;)
