Legal caliber of rifle for hunting Coyotes in southern Ontario

If you want to zip them us a 6.5 Creedmoor
Seriously - to be on the safe side I would bring the information you gathered to the local OPP and ask them about it - keep detailed records of everyone you spoke to - if it all checks out then you should be okay - but if someone challenges you on it then I would be prepared to show them what you've done (due-diligence)

Rifled barreled 12 gauge does wonders, shot my last coyote at the farm at 130 yards. Could have been a lucky shot, he sure didn't know what hit him.

We are in a zone where large caliber rifles are prohibited for hunting and no rifles period for deer hunting.

These guys are aware that a .260remington has the same ballistic as a 300winmag. banning calibres on size alone is a pointless exercise, they should look at the ballistic properties of each calibre.

Couldn't agree more!

As to the OP, I hunt that area and from my homework and calls to the authorities; you are good to go for 30-06. A varmint bullet may be a better option than FMJs for critters...just my humble $0.02 YMMV
Simcoe county isn't listed on the regulations as one of the caliber restricted areas and the adj-tos twp doesn't have any firearms discharge bylaws pertaining to a caliber of firearms.
Happy hunting

The question was asked 6 years ago, and he hasn’t logged on since...

OP here and I'm a lurker.

Funny thing is I've been using the 30-06, 3030 or a shotgun for the last 7 years. I was looking around to see if anyone had come up with a definitive answer and google brought me back here. The answer is still muddy.

What? Why’s it muddy? Simcoe county is not on the list. You’re good to go. No mud.

Somehow I have missed the discussion back in 2011 so...

The .275 restriction is obviously ridiculous and outdated, and the story I have heard from various people is that it was not about ballistics but about blocking people from using cheap and plentiful (many years ago) surplus 303 and 30-06 ammunition. I have no idea if this is true or if so why it would be peculiar to southern Ontario.
