LEO discount frustration

First off let me qualify this as I do not know anyone who serves their country in order to get a discount at lowes.

But what bugs me about these discounts is it is always military or retired military. Most reservists do not actually retire from the Canadian forces. Some do a tour or three and get out. I have only seen one sale recognizing Veterans in the 12 years that I have been on here. That was from CanadaAmmo. Thanks Chris for that.

What about point 4. Those who would want to join but were medically unfit. This is not meant as a knock but you can’t point out the excuses and not think of the genuine reasons people are rejected. I appreciate our military, I also appreciate the people who were shipped off in the last two world wars who were not in the regular forces but were told they had to go, unfortunately that may happen again in the future, and if injured in the line of duty they will then be forgotten just as the regular military personnel and just as in the last two world wars.

When they say retired them mean served in the CF not you have to be getting a pension to receive it. I have never seen one excludes reserve or people that are not receiving a pension. I am not yet drawing my pension and I still get them when available.

Life is hard

Yes there are people that wanted too but legitimately could not, they are the minority. It all boils down to people jealous that someone gets something they do not.

Best Mil discount I ever got was at a Wendy drive through in Bangor ME. I noticed on the menu board that they had a MIL discount. So I asked If I had to be US military or would my Canadian military service do? There was a short delay then the manager came to the window. "Your shooting the same bad guys, so you most certainly are getting the discount" I LMFAO.

I don't think it's a case of people being jealous, I think more than a few don't think cops are all that special.

I don't think we're that special either, but anyone would be stupid to not accept the discounts offered. But let's be honest, lots of professions get discounts or better pricing than average joe on the street gets. My wife gets an awesome discount at work for example. Far better than any military/police or IOP program offers.

The real problem with these threads is the unhappiness is misdirected at the police or military. They aren't the ones who make these decisions. The people complaining should call Wolverine and complain about the 5% they give. Or go blast TriggerTech, anyone who offers the deal. Although I guess it's easier to blame the person who benefits and has no control over it...

Nailed it. It's the retailers policy I don't get. That being said, there must be money in it or they wouldn't do it, good intentions aside. FWIW, I too have received some nice LE discounts however it seems to me retailers may want to consider giving discounts to gun club members who the majority of actually appreciate firearms. Ok, that may not sound as nice as I wanted it too, but ya'll get what I mean. I still work with a bunch of folks who would be eligible for said discounts because of their job yet, are anti-firearm. It's frustrating to see real gunnies who have a real passion for the sport yet, are looked over by the same retailer because they don't work in a particular career.

Anyway, to all you LEO's and Military folks, stay safe. Especially over the holidays.

cheers,

You can feel free to blame us too, we provide all First Responders with 10% discount, and Veterans a 5% discount. That's our choice, however we also look after our clients and many of those people that stick behind and support a new business are sure to be looked after

When I was a dive instructor (before I joined the military) almost every manufacturer gave us gear at 50% of shop cost. The thinking being that our students would want to use what we use. That was some incredible deals

Go_Big_Tactical. Mucho Gracias. It's appreciated.

Don't blame us, we just follow orders .... most dangerous phrase in human history.

Oh wait, we're talking about scopes.

That wasnt what I wanted to imply at all. Heck I didnt even know about these things back in 1999. I wanted to serve like my Grandfather :)

Well stating that anyone not joining the Canadian military has no balls is a bit of a stretch to say the least. Nothing against our military personnel but it takes a lot more balls to become an obstetrician or gynaecologist.:)
I also have a lot respect for LEO's having to deal with drunks and domestic abuse cases. Most of our military doesn't deal with nearly the crap they do.

And as far as the discount goes, I have no problem with it. Seniors get a discount for doing nothing but getting to age 65.

I figure that's why Outdoor Research gives us 50% off. I just got some $240 aiti mitts for $100 for an upcoming trip up north.
Men's high camp, trigger mitts were $50

Wow, it's rare I am at a loss for words. 158 soldiers die in the last ten years, mostly by getting blown up or shot and you think the police have it rough? You ever see what an IED does to a lav and the people inside? Ever hear the expression,"human soup"? Yea cops have it bad all right, beating up mouthy drunks or taking pot from kids in parks. Yea hard day at the office I guess. Most cops die whle driving most are texting while driving. The chances of being turned to human soup or being targeted for what they do are almost nil.

I guess your forum name says a lot about you. I said most of our military personnel, not all. Do you disagree with that?

Well thanks for showing your true colours so we know there's no need to waste much time with you. Something about the police and we'll drag out the Nazi stuff. Way to keep it original. ;)

My wife gets cost + 10% at sportchek. Our baby carrier thing cost her 250$ instead of 600$. Wolverine gives me 5%, which I rarely mention since my orders are not significant enough to make a couple bucks matter. Do us a favour, call sportchek and put in a complaint. McDonalds gets half price too.

I'll bow out now while I count my millions saved off 5%.
