Les bear super match or dd mk12

I would be opting for the Les Baer (I'm a bit of a fan boy I have to admit) myself. You shouldn't have any problems whatsoever in reaching way further than medium distances with a super match rifle.

Good luck with the search!

That sounds promising, does anyone sell Les Baer in canada?

As far as optics go I was looking at the beast, or the Bushnell elite tactical 3-21.

Ah man, that's cheaper than I thought it would be. It's gonna be hard to wait till January to buy that. Wife says no more guns till the new year. Anyone on here actually own one and able to tell me all about it?

I spent 2 weeks on couch layaway after I had two guns show up the same day not too long ago. I still have some parts and pieces inbound. I think I'll have to wait this one out. Lol.

Idk if it's worth 500$ more than a DDMK12, personally I'd pick the DD and spend the extra 500 on a Nightforce. But just go with your guts really, in that price range you can't really go wrong.

I have a Les Baer IPSC Action model. Love mine. With good ammo, and assuming you do your part, it will do 1/2 MOA. Beautifully made, you will not regret getting one.

BTW, if you don't buy it already in stock, be prepared to wait a while if you custom order it. I was told it might take LB up to a year, possibly longer, before his shop completes it. I was lucky in that I only had to wait 6 months before mine was finished.

depending what your going to shoot for ammo is my answer..... the les baer will have a match chamber and "probably" will not like cheap metal case or norinco 5.56 ammo...... so if you plan on shooting premium or handloads all the time go for the les baer.

knowing dd quality it will shoot everything all day long including cheap norinco 5.56

Does anyone here have any experience with these two guns? I'm planning my next purchase. I'm looking for a medium range tack driver.

My vote goes for the Les Baer,..............I do not own any of the 2 rifles mentioned but I have experience with LB pistols. I know his rifles get the same workmanship and tight tolerances as the handguns.
Don't get me wrong though I still would buy a DDMK18 but for a precision tool.......LB.

OK

I already have an ar that shoots cheap ammo. The next one will be shooting hand loads. I don't think I'll be able to fine 1/2 MoA from cheap ammo.

Well he his not talking mk18 lol, the dd mk12! That would be my pick right there! I have no doubt that the les baer is a great rifle but wen was the last dd your heard about that had a problem? Yeah that what I thought. The les baer has a great ss barrel but the mk12 has a cold hammer forge stainless barrel that his coated (don't remember witch coating) plus the chamber is cut in the forging process to assure optimal alignment and the muzzel is threaded. To me the only plus the les baer has is the a2 stock. Plus its hard to argue with the 7.42 lbs weight of the mk12.

I would probably go with a NF NXS 2.5-10x42 but if 1000 yard shot would be of the essance I would opt for the nxs 5.5-22x50. I read reviews that state that the nxs is clearer and brighter then the beast, plus with a NF you know it will always work and track!

That's a beautiful rifle! How does she shoot? And if you don't mind me asking, how come you didn't want the forward assist? Also, what twist did you get? I'm thinking 1-8 or 1-9. Also, how does the muzzle brake work? And how intrusive is it to shooters next door? I regularly shoot a 300win, so I don't know if I need one. But my wife who loves shooting 22 and 30 carbine might benefit.

It is a wonderful shooter. I never realized just how good a trigger can be until I tried the Geissele trigger on this gun. I've been able to replicate the 1/2MOA with the 69gr Federal Gold Medal, and have come close with my handloads:

Unfortunately, I'm just not a very good shot, and can't shoot this well consistently. But I figure that the best way to learn marksmanship is with a gun that I can't blame for my poor groups.

As far as the forward assist, I've never had to use it with my previous ARs, and I don't really like the way it looks, so I wanted an upper without the forward assist for purely esthetic reasons. So not a really big issue, just personal preference.

I have a 1:9 twist, since that would best fit the weight of the bullets that I would be using. According to the people beside me, the muzzle blast is pretty loud. I'm not sure how much difference the muzzle brake really makes, since the .223 has pretty minimal recoil for a centerfire rifle cartridge, and the bull barrel does make the gun pretty heavy which also helps reduce felt recoil. Your wife would probably be fine without it.

As far as optics go I was looking at the beast, or the Bushnell elite tactical 3-21.

Do not buy a Bushnell if you want a quality scope. The best thing about them is the warranty but compared to a nightforce they are junk. I had an Elite 6500 and had to get rid of it because the glass sucked compared to my NF and Sightron scopes. Once you shoot through higher end glass it's hard to go back.
If you want a quality scope but don't want to pay for a Nightforce then have a look at the Sightron 2.5-17x56 in either the SIII series or the new S-Tac line or the 1-7x24 if you want to keep the size and weight down. If you want to shoot really far and sacrifice being able to do much besides shoot off the bench then they also make the 6-24x50.
On an AR I would try to keep the optic a little smaller so the rifle maintains some versatility. It all depends on what type of shooting you plan to do with it though.
Sightron makes great scopes for around $1000. The glass quality is close to that of Nightforce and the turrets track very well.
Check out Mystic Precision for Sightron, Jerry is a great guy to deal with and I had mine in my hands within a week of payment.

As for your question about twist rate. If you want to shoot longer ranges (500+ yards) you want either a 7 or 8 twist. 9 is too loose to shoot the heavy stuff at distance.

You don't need a brake on a 223, especially a longer heavier barreled rifle unless you plan to 3-gun with it or do some type of shooting where quick accurate follow up shots are required. With the longer heavy barrel that probably has a rifle length gas system as well recoil will be smooth and gentle, your wife won't have any complaints shooting it.
A brake will always be louder for yourself and those around you but they aren't terrible unless you start getting down into barrels 12 inches or less.

Your options seem strange, Les Baer or Daniel Defense and then Nightforce or Bushnell? High end or middle of the road both times. If not for the cost the choice seems obvious to me.
