I have built Grendel on AA barrel , Saber Defense ( before they closed ) and Satern . The Saber barrel was nice ( came with a Gill brake ) and a mid length gas system. The Satern is a rifle length system
The best Grendel is the Satern barrel. This is a single point cut rifle barrel .
Please note that Satern changed chamber to the 264LBC prior to SAAMI accepting the 6.5 Grendel.
When doing these builds, Bill Alexander was very helpfull and a wealth of knowledge ( not just Grendel stuff....guns in general ) . He sold me on ponying up the $$ for a Satern barrel and I have not been disappointed
You need to be carefull because many "Grendels" not true Grendels. Best example was Competion Shooting Systems 6.5 or 264LBC which use a 7.62X39 bolt
It is a common mistake to assume that the 6.5 Grendel uses a 7.62X39 bolt. It uses a bolt with .011 more headspace. A grendel bolt in a 7.62X39 will close ( didn't try to pull the trigger ! ). A 7.62X39 bolt in a Grendel won't even come close to camming over
According to AA, the 6.5 Grendel bolt is built with better steel which helps preven the bolt breakage that plagues 7.62X39 bolts . When AA licenced a barrel, it ALWAYS came with one of his bolts
If you decide to go the CSS or LBC route, you should source out a LMT 7.62X39 bolt. They are far superior to a off the shelf 7.62X39 bolt. They have them in stock...its just noted listed so you need to ask them for it. According to LMT , they were made for a project that never got off the ground
My plinker loads are made with 7.62X39 brass . My serious loads are loaded with Lapua brass
This build was attempt at a clone of MK12Mod1 ( except for caliber obviously ) , to be partner of my MK12Mod0 . OPS Inc wouldn't make a true Mk12 brake and collar for me, but did make a Ops Inc brake in the goofy thread of the Satern Barrel. They turned it around in less than a week !
Upper is a Larue M4 with a KAC FF rifle length. Lower is a Spikes with Geissle Hi Speed . Irons were not on rifle when pic was taken
